Ravi Ashwin Interview discussion thread

As terrible as our loudmouth coach was, what exactly was wrong in him backing Kuldeep after his 5-er at Sydney? Till then Ashwin had been totally below par in nearly every SENA test he had played. Was averaging 43 in SENA tests till the Adelaide test in 2018. What an amazing sense of entitlement.

Based on his career record in SENA, if he was not to be picked for a SENA test ever again it would not be any injustice at all.

I am glad BCCI does not think like you as well. Otherwise Rahane will be playing for a few more years.

No team kicks out captain who leads to his team to country's greatest series win in the same year and yet Indian team did that and you still are complaining lol.

That whole interview made him look quite defensive for some reason. Even kohli has topped that only with the 'you can't judge us if you haven't played the game' line once for which he got rightly panned. With ashwin it seems more sincere since he's not in a leadership position. The chip on the shoulder is alright if It works for him but he seems to have gained some self awareness  by this same interview in how to interact with other people.

He is 35. Probably an year or 2 at the most. So he probably felt it was necessary to share his view point before hanging his boots. Unlike in the past where the confrontations were suppressed (except Dravid/Ganguly animated conversation) nowadays it is hard to with social media around. Of course obvious ones could not be suppressed. Kapil/Sunil clash was a bigger one in the 1980s. Then during the dark match fixing saga so many controversies happened in the background. Manoj vs Kapil,  Shastri vs Azhar. Compared to such mudslinging this is nothing. This is a bit more authentic.  This is why Rohit seems to be a good choice. When Dinesh Karthik was not sent ahead of Vijay shankar, he was pissed off. But in the end Rohit handled it well.  As long as there is no dressing room tension we should be good.  With two strong minded personalities Kohli and Ashwin nothing is predictable.

Sorry but ashwin's performance was pretty average (not looking at stats but from what i saw in that period) in overseas conditions back when shastri made that comment & also kuldeep really looked big deal for us after 5fer in sydney. He shouldn't have said it as coach though.

Calling a spade as a spade is what any coach should do, give honest opinion.Shastri did that in 2018 when Aswin was struggling.

I am in minority but Greg Chappell would have worked if Indian super stars like Sachin took more accountability. He might have been very abrasive to a fault but he wanted to get more out of players.

He never called spade a spade when it came to Kohli. Zero tournament wins. May be others should call spade a spade.

Jaddu is not a solo bowler like Ashwin. He needs people around him create a bit of pressure and he can eke out a few wickets.

Neither is Ashwin, this post just proves how much of a fanboy/girl you are of him

McWarne was a team act , they were less effective together, same goes for Jadeja/ashwin or pretty much any bowler ever!

Tournament wins are not given to expect that as a given is stupidity. People act as if India was winning everything undersun before Kohli.

Dhoni has won 9 multinational (3 or 4 teams) tournaments. Lost 6. Rohit won 2 out of 2. Kohli 0.

How many multinational tournament did Kohli captain? Other than CT and world cup . Kohli would have won both of those which Rohit won if he had played.

How many CT ,world T20s and world T20s did Dhoni lose.  How many CTs and world T20s  did India fail to reach knockout stages under Dhoni. People keep acting as if India was winning everything before Kohli became captain. He became full time odi captain 2017.

You can't win everything. Atleast win something. We could see Kohli not being able to win even an IPL which both Dhoni/Rohit achieved multiple times even with lesser teams.

You need time and team to win. When he is only captaining major tournaments , there is luck invloved too. Who cares about IPL.Don't bring IPL into it.You don't win 70% of games you captained and winning series in every country by accident.

"Who cares about IPL" . Well that is probably the biggest stage after international stage to prove your captaincy credentials. He failed there as well. He built Indian side exactly like how he built RCB.  Bilateral wins  mean very little given that not all the sides field the full strength side. It really means little.

Yep, it made him to confirm from inside the current team that Shastri is just a loud mouthed beer belly. Good for that.

Does Shastri see his own hypocrisy?

In one interview Shastri claims he was hurt because the BCCI (or some people there) sidelined him in 2016 and didn’t let him become coach at the time.  He says and I quote:

“Yes, more than anything, it hurt because of the manner in which it was done. For all that I had contributed, just on one word from the BCCI, there were better ways to let me know “

In another interview he claims that his own public sidelining of Ashwin a few years later was tough love that helped the latter become a better bowler!  How about the disgraceful manner in which he did it in his turn?

Either own both, or neither, you FIGJAM.
