Hardik Pandya set to be captain of Ahmedabad

A remote controlled (by Ponting) S Iyer was named DC captain, Pant captains, a nervous KL captains, a new Samson captains, so SDP does not have a strong competition. If he does well, which he should eventually, he may have a strong case to be India’s captain in the next 24 months or so :hmmm:

I am really interested in knowing who makes these calls.

Anyways you never know, Pandya might be a tactical genius for all we know. Never judge a book by its cover

Pandya doesn't come across as a smart cricketer or even a human being. He has the confidence in himself and attitude to win. Let's see. Not much hopeful though. In the end it also depends a lot on what team is assembled.

Never knew he is such a high profile player.

He's underrated as a cricketer, especially as a batsman.  Guy is a legit 3 skill player, and a decent cricket brain too.  Remains to be seen if he can handle the pressures and responsibility of being captain, but I think the opportunity has come at the right time for him.

Lot of folks on ICF and elsewhere berate him because of his supposed "attitude", or relative to what they expect from him - i.e. a bowling allrounder, when he's actually a batting allrounder.  Then there are a couple of folks who are overly hyping him up as well.  None of that noise really reflects his ability and value as a cricketer.  He's coming back from major back surgery, that takes time.  If he's able to make a good full recovery, he's going to prove himself as a player many times over at least.  Captaincy is a different thing.

Massive, massive extrapolation there.  Pandya's game is built on taking personal risks as a batsman.  That translates by definition to less than consistent numbers.  Indian captaincy doesn't go to that type of player at the national level, even if arguably he could do the job.  But then again, extrapolation is just putting it mildly when it comes to you and 'SDP'.

Pandya as captain, Nehraji as chief coach, Vikram Solanki as director of cricket - The VCs who own Ahmedabad franchise are making some strange choices if the rumours turn out to be true.

A guy who has lost his place in the national side, that too in his prime years, being given such a responsibility sounds weird. Two months after the T20 WC got over, he has not even reported to NCA for his injury rehab while Rohit, Bhuvi and Jaddu continue to slog there! I hope the selectors do not bring him back for the series vs WI/SL.

When did that happen?

Let Pandya captain IPL for next 20 seasons nobody cares. Let him leave Indian team alone, Indian team is better off without him.Thakur has done better job as an allrounder than Pandya ever did in tests.India will find someone who will show improvement in shorter formats than Pandya.
