Given the state of 'flux' the Indian team has been in right after he became coach, I feel he's hanging back on this front, and allowing the "new" captain some space.

That better be the reason, because otherwise.........

There have been 5 different captains during Dravid's short tenure so far.

Dhawan, Rohit, Rahane, Kohli and Rahul ... in that order.

And the same boring selections have prevailed irrespective of the captain.

So ......

Yeah this thread strikes a chord in me.

This Indian team is - boring.  Its not the lousy performances (there’s plenty of that)

I thought about this a bit and the words that come to mind for this team and most players are:

Sparkless, uninspiring, passionless.

As a fan, the game is supposed to lift you up, get your blood pumping, but this lot have made it just mentally exhausting to watch.

That's an exrapolation that I don't quite buy into....  Yet.

Dravid is not the type to impose his will on either the team, or the captain.  One of the main reasons he wanted to stay away from the 'senior' team coaching job while happily taking on the u19 and A team gigs -because he could much more easily do what he wanted in that space.

Given the 'churn' in captaincy, I think the probability of Dravid just offering his suggestions/philosophy on selection over a longer timeframe, and letting the captain make decisions and choices in the immediate term - is far more higher than some sort of frustrated conclusion that he is driving this sort of perpetuating 'seniority' driven selection.  Latter is just out of character with him through his 20+ year career in cricket.

Again, we have to go by the evidence - the thing is that we are dealing with very small sample sets here, and add to that, the random kho-kho with captaincy.

What I really want India to do is start playing bilaterals like Aussies do - as preparation and talent evaluation for WCs.  To that note, I want to see India start auditioning #6 batsmen who can offer bowling - whether that's Venky Iyer, Washi Sundar, or others.

One game into the 1st away ODI series is very early to jump to conclusions EB.

There are only two cricketers in this team who are /will be GLOBAL superstars and that's because they are characters on the field.

If you remove Kohli and Pant from this team, there would be no fun in watching these dorks.

Are you having fun watching Kohli. You sure does even if f he play test in odi.

Stats padders and old washed up players galore..chasing 6 rpo, the jokers at the top go at 5 rpo, look for personal milestones. This when they are playing 5 specialist bowlers. No intent, no motivation.

Absolutely pathetic to watch.

they are still stuck in an era where 5 rpo is deemed enough

Why you think that is the case? What has changed for fast bowlers?

They have realized that it is better not to risk injury and save body for IPL?

Anyway the Indian establishment considers the pace of Bhuvaneshwar as good as the pace of say a peak Saini. So why put in the effort to bowl at Saini's pace and break your body down.

Just bowl at Bhuvaneshwar's pace.

(The fact that Bhyvaneshwar breaks down at Bhuvaneshwar's pace is a different issue)

Bhuvi needs to start bowling slower to avoid breaking down. a gentle 90-100 kph should be enough. different bowling style: super-slow medium bowler

There is a " pacer " named Mohit Thadani in our domestic cricket. He runs in hard, bowls with effort and often clocks 98 kph ( yes kph )  with his " non-slower " balls.

I don't know how he manages it but he maybe next in line for debut.
