He runs in hard, bowls with effort and often clocks 98 kph ( yes kph ) with his " non-slower " balls. I don't know how he manages it but he maybe next in line for debut. I wouldn't mind watching him at some point, just for the sake of novelty. sandeep, SRT100 and express bowling 3 Link to comment
Stan AF
I guess this has been going for a long time now. There is simply put a lot of very ordinary players in the team. The more I think about it I have to zero in one factor that's plaguing the team. There's an obvious lack of evolutionary growth among the Indian players over the last 30 years or so. Players be it bowlers or batters who can rise above ordinary levels and create excitement among the public. I mean there are simply no real raw talents either playing or being given chances at the highest level. If I have to zero in on players who belong to that category I could may be put 5 players at best in that bracket. Tendulkar, Dhoni, Yuvraj and now Bumrah maybe just maybe rishabh pant. Although pant has a really really long way to go to prove it in white ball tourneys. So we should really discount Pant in white ball but in tests yeah he's there. Kapil Dev was obviously a pioneer and the OG, but since he was before my time I just didn't include him. SRT100, Mariyam and tweaker 1 2 Link to comment
Stan AF
Kuldeep and chahal excited me when they started out in 2018 but both of em have not done justice to what they promised and fizzled out. That is the biggest sad story in recent times. Mariyam and AuxiliA 2 Link to comment

Reminds me of some of the English test batsmen of the 1970s. Some of them managed to play quite a few tests while averaging around 20. Mosher 1 Link to comment

Kapil Dev was obviously a pioneer and the OG, but since he was before my time I just didn't include him. Not that I necessarily disagree with any of this. However, talent ( or the lack of) isn't the discussion. Case in point: Shardul Thakur. Is he a gifted cricketer? Average at best. But he has some grit. Keeps India in the game and your interest alive. KL Rahul, on the other hand is an exceptional talent. He however, doesn't inspire any confidence. When was the last useful KL knock for India? He comes, he blocks a few. Plays with no intent to score fast. Gets out cheaply. This even if we are chasing, like yesterday, and have a run rate of 6 to achieve. Kohli is not too different these days. Why would anyone watch us chase? Apart from Dhawan, did anyone even try? Shardul's efforts were wasted because we had already lost by then. Poor batting aside, KL also looks lost and about to burst into tears. Now this is a guy who does give a lot of importance to how he comes across. One only has to look at his interviews and his IG handle. Surely, he can get his act right and appear a little more confident and assertive on the field. More so now, that he is our captain. KL is so diffident that he makes Munaf Patel look like Shiv Khera. In the middle overs we struggled to score against unnamed bowlers. Spinners at that. What has happened to our batting? Surely, it can't be lack of acumen. It is the attitude that's lacking here. We need to get people on the team who have a desire to achieve. Not this entitled lot. When we had South Africa on the ropes, when they were 3 down and we had to go for the kill, Bhuvi walked and delivered a few. Surely he can put in some more effort. As a result Rassie went on to score his Dussen. Chahal also is past it. Doesn't look like he would threaten any batsman in a 100 overs. All of this is very counter intuitive. 2 decades ago, when avenues of entertainment were lesser, a cricketer wouldn't have to do as much to keep us interested. Today given the infinite entertainment options available, you'd think that the cricketers would go the whole hog. This team needs a radical re-haul for the T20 and ODI WC. In its current form, it barely wins. It barely competes. And it doesn't entertain. At least we have the IPL. Edited January 20, 2022 by Mariyam Banton, Vijy, Stan AF and 2 others 1 4 Link to comment

cowboysfan
is anybody more frustrating to watch than KL Rahul?.he looks like he is prime form and has it all figured out buts goes into a slump for so long that his place in the team will be questioned. SRT100 and Frustrated 1 1 Link to comment

SRT100
I didnt think its possible, but there is no Indian cricketer that is genuinely watchable all the time. Link to comment
