Banton 291
He will come good. He is good enough to bowl 4-5 overs for 25-28 runs. Link to post

Frustrated 2,653
I m afraid V Iyer could be another Shivam Dube in the making. Batting me bhi dum nahi he. Won't last long, I think. Glad if I m proven wrong though. SRT100 1 Link to post
Sean Bradley 1,882
One Good IPL season and the guy is representing India in South Africa. by this standard, many players in the past deserved to play for India. The likes of Paul Valthaty, Swapnil Asnodkar, etc deserved chances because they had better IPL seasons than Venky Iyer in the past. Frustrated 1 Link to post
Majestic 1,532
I always felt it was a bit too early for him. It was not even one full IPL season but just half IPL season and he opened the batting there. It is just a different requirement in Indian setup. Link to post
putrevus 6,637
There is no such thing called batting allrounder unless you are Kallis class and to extent Stokes. Guys like Iyers and 3D player from Tamil Nadu, I forgot his name, he is another useless guy. Unless they are top order batsmen and can walk into team as batsman , there is no point in picking these bits and pieces players. Frustrated 1 Link to post

You need to be a good part timer like Markram /Root /Jadhav to give those 4-5 overs. AuxiliA 1 Link to post

IPL has become the selection metric when it comes to Test, ODI and T20I teams... no first class cricket for two years using covid as a excuse.. this is the tatti result you get, one hit wonder IPL players who do well on flat wickets and small grounds- now we will see the true aukat of IPL quality in the Indian team, bits and pieces players, boring team to watch Link to post

More like a batsman who could just roll his arm over for the sake of it. Will be happy to be proven wrong. Edited January 21 by Pollack Link to post

He averages 48 in domestic one day cricket at sr of 105 after 30+ games. So, no, it's not based on just IPL. IPL just brought him into limelight. Regarding Valthaty, Asnodkar, their domestic performances weren't anything to talk about. kohli 1 Link to post

He mostly played for KKR as a batsman. His bowling is just an outside help. Still bowls -130ish pace. There aren't many domestic batsmen who average 48 at an SR of 105 in List A cricket. People are just talking About IPL ignoring his domestic performances. kohli 1 Link to post
