Tacticians yes, Add anshuman Gaekwad to the list, he was a smart tactician too, but sadly Mumbai has never produced an out an out great Captain. Kapil Dev, Dhoni, Ganguly, Kohli, they all carried a certain aura of Leadership, sadly even the great Sachin lacked that aura of a great leader. Rohit has shown that he could be a great leader in the IPL, but sadly he's at the fag end of his career and it's too little too late for him kind of situation. Mumbai historically produced great cricketers and has a great batting culture, but Captaincy, I doubt.

Wadekar has not lost a single game as Bombay captain. 16 wins 14 draws.  !!   Aditya Tare 12 wins 2 losses.

DIdn't they realize when they appointed him as vice captain? lol  Why is vice captain position is taken lightly. He is a guy who has to step up when captain is not on the field.

You have raised a question which can be easily explained by “Kohli’s keep kursi Safe ( batsman and best caption by surrounding urself with mediocrity) theory”.

Kohli needs to be rested for a series or two.
Simply, He is not right person and will keep biting team as long as he isn’t made to understand that he should concentrate on Batting

There is a reason why Mumbai has won so many domestic trophies. Even the IPL. Not just the players. But also they had good leadership.  Although sounds regional it is a cultural thing.  Cricketing culture.

Yet India never won any series outside of India till 1967 when Prasanna twirled it or in 1971 in Eng because of BS Chandrashekhar. In the 60s , with Mumbai dominance, India lost 17 successive tests overseas. With 5 IPL trophies ,  India never won T20i WC after 2007. Domestic dominance means zilch in International circle.

Feel sorry for KL Rahul. He is such a softie. Comes across as a nice guy, proper middle class nerdy urban South Indian boy whose parents tell him not to be friends with people like Pandya bros (buri sangat) and keep giving him examples of successful peers like Kohli. However he  hangs with such crowd to feel cooler and over does the Kohli worship.

Actually his father is a professor at NIT Suratkal ... not sure how he ended up in KJo's show

This is equivalent to calling Pakistani players for auction and not picking them. If you always knew he doesn't have it in him to captain the side then why even make him a VC. They had Dhawan, he did a decent job as a captain in the SL series, if you wanted a temporary captain for a series in the absence of Rohit then they could have gone with Dhawan instead.

If it was to test Rahul's Skill as a captain in an International series, then Rahul's report card would be as bad as 3 on 10. Either way it's an egg on face of BCCI, first they appoint him the captain then humiliate him with such Statements.

Wasnt it Virat who pushed for KLRs elevation to vice captaincy? There were a lot of reports saying Kohli wanted an younger guy to be the vice captain instead of Rohit .... why blame BCCI? Pity Dravid for inheriting a mess from Kohli/Ravi Shastris tenure with no succession planning

ICF's thread on it..

Name one Karnataka player who is uber aggressive (except Vinay koomar lol with his terrorizing run up).  Not a complaint. They are talented, great team players. Very gritty, skillful players, match winners. You can say whatever you want. But generally they are quiet, unassuming, very soft.  Prasad barring that one occasion is also a bit on the softer side.   If you want real feisty in your face attitude it comes from Delhi guys. Manoj, Gambhir, Kohli.  So how about making Ishant the captain :)

Telugu, Tamils (except some brahmins) and even keralites are generally mentally tough and won't back down from a fight.

There is no shortage of parochial Bambi  nincompoops in the BCCI. Must be butt hurt rohit did not get it.

Abey Rohit is the actual captain. KL Rahul was just standing in for him this series. Don't get why people are so fussed when Rahul was just a filler.

Pathetic leaking, what is the point of taking a dump on yourself?

1. he shouldn’t have been made the captain in the first place, his struggles in IPL with captaincy was there for all to see. If they wanted to give captaincy to a senior  in the absence of Rohit, they should have made Dhawan the captain. If they wanted an youngster Pant should have been made the captain.

2. once the decision has been made, he needs to be backed for a period of time. Its extremely lame to leak bad reviews of the captain after a first assignment away conditions. Does anyone honestly believe we would have had a different result if Kohli was still the captain? Would they leak such reports about Kohli?

Can someone dumb it down and explain how it was KL fault that India lost? Who could have done any better if the bowling sucked. They are making him the scapegoat. Typical desi tradition.

KL scored a combined total of 77 runs in 3 matches.  Avg 25.  SR is below par too.  His poor batting and overall tuk tuk approach during PP on flat pattas against a SA D team did not contribute to our defeat?  Only the bowlers are responsible?   In the 3rd odi, bowlers did a decent job to restrict SA to 287, BTW.

Quite rightly so. However, what were these officials doing when the Indian team continually **** the bed in notable tournaments under VK's captaincy? I would like to know their feedback on his tenure.

Dude, that is different. What he is saying is KL does not even look like a captain. Kohli was sacked for not winning a ICC tournament but he did well in other bilateral series. Kohli was given time to make amends. KL cannot be given time as he does not look captaincy material at all.

Batting sucked. Bowling was ok.
