1st Test Line Up Vs SL

Good call. Same as mine.

Every batsman bar Kohli has been able to win a match for their batting in one innings in the last 2 years, Hitman,Mayank, Gill, Iyer, Pant

No matter what SL score or if we bat first, Im confident just one of these batsmen will score enough.

The beauty of this line up is now we have MULTIPLE CHANCES of a good score. With Rahane, Pujara and Kohli, India had ZERO chances of a decent score with batting with all three of them in the team.

Our bowlers in Indian conditions is never really an issue.

Need to play Gill now, its not about winning the test, its about getting him to feel comfortable in the Indian team in India and carrying that confidence overseas.

Sure its unlucky for Vihari, but the TM need to stop gifting a position because they have compassion for a player. If Vihari was scoring well, this wouldnt be an issue, but he isnt, he at best an average test batsman.

1. mayank

2. KLR/shaw

3. rohit

4. gill/shreyas

5. pant (wk)

6. sundar

7. jaddu

8. ashwin

9. kuldeep/rahul chahar/shami [unfortunately rahul c has regressed, otherwise I think he could have been a test bowler]

10. bumrah/umesh

11. siraj/prasidh

idea should be to give as many back-up players chances as possible. this lineup has 6 bowlers + bats till 9, both of which make it very formidable in SC.

Is Sundar done in Tests? Short career i suppose as he has no place in the side.

Why does he have no place in the side.

The test spots are wide open now with the ouster of Pujara and Rahane.

Shreyas, Vihari and others are still jostling for those positions but not have any positions cemented.

A fit and inform Washington will walk into the test team just as a pure allrounder (number 7) let alone compete with the batsman position and even those are wide open now.

Im fine for Sundar to come in, but we dont need 6 bowlers, thats overkill and a waste. They will be barely used.

Gill and Iyer need to come in now.

Im fine for Bumrah to be rested. (preserved)

In the current form, Shreyas should play at #3 and Gill probably should play at 5

current form wont help overseas if technique isnt there.

Gill should open instead of Mayank.

Vihari should be no. 3. Mayank should play at 5 given his prowess v spin. Maybe there he can perform overseas, won't if opening.

Gill is clutch but he is wasted as opener imo. He should be a proper number 3 or number 4. He should be the next kohli. Shaw can be number 3. We need brand new opening pairs but it is so hard to find someone with compact technique.

Maybe one of the young gen under 19 boys hopefully.

Exactly !

We need to give potential all-condition batsmen games in India too, to make them comfortable and get them ready.

Batting in just tough alien conditions against big teams will never get them going.

Which is why Gill at 3 is a no-brainer for me.

Very true. We need to to pick the best players and not the ones towards whom people feel compassion.

Gill has a higher ceiling than Vihari and we need more stroke players in our lineup too ( as batters these days don't last long anyway and the strokeplayers will score more runs in that shorter stay )

Vihari has done well overseas too.

Gill needs to play too ofcourse. Its not between these two.

Mayank with current technique can't open overseas and Shreyas has lots of question marks in terms of being all conditions bat.

We do need atleast one batsman who can hang around for long period.

I had a lot of misgivings about Shreyas' technique for tests.

But he impressed in that test vs NZ.

Granted, it was in India ... but he was trying to play the ball under his eyes and had a very good idea where his off stump is.

I want him to be our No.5 in tests for this reason and get to play both at home and away.

Give him 10 tests and he may do really well

his main issue is pace and bounce and Kanpur track had none of those.Failed in Mumbai as bounce was there.Anyway lot of players look million bucks in India.

We only play one Test overseas this year from hereon. Need to start identifying without trial and error method.

In Mumbai, he got out trying to over-attack. The lead was 350 already and he was just trying to dominate. His problem is in Australia and South Africa. In India he will be fine in most conditions.

first innings failed too.

Yes he'll score in India in most conditions. But that shouldn't be good enough. Can't see him doing well even in OT Test in July

Mumbai was spinners wicket. Ajaz got 10 wickets and he had a good partnership after the collapse although he didn't got lot of runs.

Anyways for overseas, I will always pick Vihari over Iyer. Vihari has a solid technique and has been invested in from last two years so will continue with him. Preferably, Vihari should be the pick for both home and overseas tests and Iyer as backup but let's see who they go with in the coming series. Iyer is more dominant among the two.

Yes ... his problem was pace and bounce.

But Shreyas has improved against these too.

The Dharamsala track had a lot of pace and bounce and the SL pacers had pace ... but he tackled them well.

Compare this with the SL batters who were really uncomfortable against the pace and bounce of Siraj and Avesh.

And a big aspect of international cricket is temperament ... and he is displaying great temperament these days. We should look to utilize this form and temperament across formats.

The brainless Kohli PR mafia has totally it. They are busy trending #AllowCrowdfor100thTestofKohli on twitter and abusing BCCI ! It's all about personal milestones now for their paymaster and his fans.

Last time they trended #ShameonBCCI, Kohli lost his Test captaincy. Can't wait to see the results this time

And they succeeded in bending the BCCI babus to let audience in for cheering the 100th test match of Virat Kohli:phehe:, the greatest modern day bat (acc to his fans) at 50% capacity.

In any case, he is probably getting a well deserved 100th test match celebration.:icflove:

Imagine the potency of our lineup as soon as we can replace Kohli with a Sundar/KL.

You wont worry about two or three batsmen failing as there is so many match winners batting.

Do you know from Ranji who we can replace Kohli with aside from Sundar/KL?
