He is fit enough to stay at the crease for long periods. That is enough for now. Form, touch is not something we acquire with fitness. Yes but there should be a minimum threshold. Rohit, Pant, Thakur, Kuldeep are all 'unfit' but they're at acceptable levels. Sarfaraz is not. And there is a huge difference in playing domestic bowlers for 5-6 hours and facing top class international bowlers. Link to comment

Few batters know how to dominate spin on turners and few others know how to tackle seam swing and hostile pace in seam friendly conditions. As I said, all it needs is a clear effective communication between the selectors, TM and the players. A batsman can not be dropped on an away tour after a good home series or vice versa.Even now Iyer will play OT Test. Also batsmen are expected to make adjustments to improve in adverse conditions and they do it too. Bowlers can't be expected to do that, especially spinners Link to comment

That is exactly what I'm asking. Why can't a batter be dropped for an away series if there is sufficient data and proof of him not being atleast half as effective? 1 hour ago, Lord said: Also batsmen are expected to make adjustments to improve in adverse conditions and they do it too. Bowlers are expected to adapt and adjust to different conditions. Don't know where you got that from.. The problem with this approach is we won't know whether he improved or not. Kohli was an absolute dud on his first tour to England. He fixed it in his next tour. Rahane was very good during his first overseas round. Then he went down hill home and away. Agarwal looked great on his debut during the boxing day test. He looked clueless in the next tour. We will be looking at an unsettled batting line up who will end up failing home and away. There is no player who can do well in all conditions in our line up. There is no Rahul Dravid, Tendulkar. Every single batsman is susceptible to something. pace or bounce or swing. We got rolled over 36, 78. Most recently humiliated by a skinny debutant in SA. GIll , KL Rahul are the only guys i rate above Iyer. Others are all the same with a lot of weaknesses. If he can overcome the challenge and make runs power to him. Let us not run him down before even giving a chance. KL Rahul had so many. So did Rohit. At one point Rohit was averaging 29 away from home. Vijy 1 Link to comment
