Starting to like this team.

They should drop Shankar and get Sai Sudharshan / Saha.. I was a promoter of Shankar until I saw him bat today.. Pathetic is an understatement.

Love their bowling attack, but the lack of trust on Aaron is concerning.. They should swap him with Sai Kishore at some point.. Only problem is that all their spinners turn the ball away from the right hander (Rashid, Tewatia and Sai Kishore)

rashid bowls mostly googlies, so he is an off-spin bowler in a sense. and tewatia mostly bowls sliders, so I wouldn't call him a conventional leggie either. I do agree, therefore, that Sai Kishore should come in

If you look at GT, it is mainly a 9 core players + 2 luxury spots team, where:

a) The 9 include 5 Indian players (SDP, Gill, Shami, Tewatia, & Sadarangani) & 4 overseas players (can be 2 batsmen + 2 bowlers, 1 batsmen + 3 bowlers, etc.). Depending upon the overseas combination, GT amazingly has 5-6 bowling options in these 9 spots

b) The 2 luxury spots can be anything depending upon the overseas players combination:

Say # 3 spot

  • If you want a specialist WK and someone to do some pinch hitting in PP -> Saha
  • If you want someone to handle the new ball in PP & bowl an over or two -> Shankar or Gurkeerat (these guys can bat at #7 too)
  • If you want a left handed youngster -> Sai Sudarshan
  • If you want a spinner who can do some pinching -> Sai Kishore or Jayant (both can bat a bit)
  • and so on

The other spot is likely to go to a specialist bowler so:

  • Yash Dayal (left-arm medium pace option; was a back up for team India bowlers too)
  • Aaron (pace + experience)
  • A spinner: Sai Kishore or Jayant Yadav
  • and so on
