MI may only be competing for the wooden spoon this season but they are already in the process of building a clutch team that can dominate for the next decade or so. Kishan, Brevis, Tilak, David, Thampi (he has started well this season), Markande are all good young  prospects and potential genuine match winners. Don’t forget Archer will be back next season too. All MI need to do is get a good overseas pacer in the next auction (Starc?) and they’ll again get a team that can win you titles. At the moment too many filibusters in the side in the form of Mills, Unadkat, Sams, etc.

Thank you. Atleast there's one sensible poster in this thread who sees the bigger picture.

Not easy to get Starc if he does decide to sign up for the IPL.. Almost all franchisees will be eyeing him.. even CSK given that Dhoni will be gone by then, so the next keeper can handle quick bowlers

The flurry of ill-advised posts in this thread is not unexpected. Most of the posters are reacting as if MI didn't have any bad starts to the season before. Makes me wonder if they have ever followed the previous seasons. Even if they have a bad start or an entire bad season they come back even better.

This is literally their DNA..

STAT: Mumbai Indians' worst starts to an IPL season

5 defeats in 2014

4 defeats in 2008

4 defeats in 2015 (finished as Champions)

4 defeats in 2022 *

3 defeats in 2018

Four of the five seasons (2008, 2014, 2018 & 2022) were the season immediately after a mega-auction.

Fun fact: In the first season after losing the first 4, we went on to win the next six.

All these seasons had 8 teams, now there are 10, teams. Huge difference now. More competition, worse MI team etc.

Were the 2014, 2008 and 2015 seasons hosted dominantly in a coastal region like Mumbai where dew plays a major factor?

The bowling is trash. Having 5 specialist bowlers is not the way to go about, end up having Unadkat at 7 , Murugan at 8.

Mills is terribly underperforming, they bet big on him with Archer not being available.

Less said about their Indian bowlers the better, they could so easily have picked one of Avesh/Tyagi/Krishna if they tried.

They cannot assemble 4 foreign players in the team, what were they even thinking in the auction.

They spent 15.25 crore on Ishan 16 crore on Rohit , 8.25 crore on Tim david and 8 crore on Jofra Archer.  47 crore and hardly any return.
