Bumrah of 2022 is way faster than Umesh of 2022.

Bumrah was bowling entire spells at 142 k to 147 k in both tests vs SL a couple of months back. He was the quickest pacer from both sides vs South Africa In early 2022.

Umesh can hardly touch 142 k in tests these days.

Bumrah has bowled at slower pace this IPL season than Umesh Yadav.

Also, you can't compare two guys with different age. Overall, Umesh for me is in fast category while Bumrah is borderline or fast medium unless he goes back to when he started off.

Bumrah, Cummins, Rabada (current version) belong in the FAST MEDIUM RANGE.

Johnson, Donald, Steyn, Holding, Bond, Wood are FAST BOWLERS.

We need to know the difference between

Medium Fast

Fast Medium

Fast.

Putting Bumrah, Cummins in the same category as Holding, Donald, Johnson is preposterous.

When South Africa toured India in the late 1990s, they showed speeds on TV.  Donald bowled a fastest of 137 kph. A younger Nantie Hayward, with a Fastest of 147 k, was a good 10 kph quicker.

This is the natural progression for pacers.

Pacers slow down when they age. Happens to everybody.

Donald was thought to be express for the first 2 or 3 years of his career. Then he became fast and then fast-,medium.

You are not demarcating between express bowlers and fast bowlers.

Bumrah and Cummins are still Fast. They were never express. But they are not Fast-medium yet. This difference needs to be recognised.

No he has not. Bumrah has bowled a fastest of 148 kph in this IPL while Umesh has bowled a fastest of 144 k.

Bumrah has often bowled full overs at 140 k to 146 k and Umesh has not.

Moreover, Bumrah is not bowling flat out in T20s these days.

Compare test matches for true ability of bowling quick.

I am not comparing different age categories.

I  just contested the statement that Umesh IS faster than Bumrah ... which he is not.  Peak Umesh may have been a tad quicker than peak Bumrah.

Batsmen who have faced Bumrah all say that he is very very quick.  Batsmen's opinion about Umesh is also that he is very quick.

Release speeds are not really a very good way to gauge the speeds that the batsmen feel.

That's also down to his slightly awkward action which makes it harder for batsman to get going. But Bumrah's speed has definitely gone down a bit and he doesn't bowl consistently between 140-145 these days. It is more in the lines of 138-142 kph.

Ultimately, it's hurrying the batsmen that matters most when it gomes to bowling speeds, isn't it  ?   And bowling hostile short balls from time to time.

If a pacer can do both,   exact release speeds don't matter.

But Bumrah hits mid 140s in most spells, not just 142 k.

Bumrah's pace is not down..dont presume this by just judging this IPL or useless bilaterals, Its clear he doesn't care seeing who his bowling partners are and is just going through his motions.

Come the big moments he raises his level. Saw it in England test series where he was very quick at crucial spells.

They have produced genuinely quick bowlers over the years. Atleast in terms of speed, they will always produce a lot of quality.  Not so much in terms of discipline and intelligence though.

You will always find 140 + bowlers over there and a rare 150+ as well but many wont make it at the highest level.

Not one can do it in tests. Phony pace nation. Phasst trundling nation. Bowling 4 -10 overs means nothing.
