Chinese already have way too much influence in Indian circles.  Even though one cannot discount the commie agenda AK ran in Rang de Basanti using a genuine issue of MIG 21.

Bahubali 2 failing in China is nothing surprising...  Their War & action movies are way more interesting than us.

And wasn't Kung Fu Yoga a joint Indo-China co production result as well.  That worked well over there as well.

Even in Rang De Basanti the corrupt politician belonged to some Saffron Party and not Congress.

Yeah George Fernandes the defense minister.

It’s kind of ironic to make BJP corrupt which came to power only in 1999, while all defence contracts till then and scams like Bofors, Harshad Mehta happened in Congress governments. That is how the ecosystems work.

Thought you will watch the movie, first day first show. How is it?

Watched it today.

Very boring movie. Far too long and in general nothing to keep me captivated. Aamir Khan tries too hard to make intelligent cinema but ends up making frivolous stuff just like the rest of Bollywood.

You guys are throwing around some unverified twitter numbers.

Without really knowing how the film business works.

The producer AK, has already sold the movie to his distributors (and in this case co-producer: Viacom 18). Viacom 18 has distribution rights in India. And Paramount ( Iirc) for distribution rights overseas including China.

From the total box office collections, initially you deduct entertainment tax. Then from the remaining proceeds the charges for the multiplex/single screens. By this stage generally 80% of the BO receipts remain. Of this the distributor (typically in India) takes 75% of the profits. And the producer gets a small percentage here based on the kind of profit sharing contract that is drawn up.

Think of the post covid era where films aren't doing too well in the BO. Most producers, even the big names like Akshay, Devgn and Aamir, are ready to negotiate and agree to a smaller % share of gross profit if the Distributor is willing to offer a higher price for purchase of distribution rights. They want to make the bulk of their money before the movie releases.

That's why the 250cr INR that went to Aamir from China is very laughable. Paramount ( or whoever distributed his earlier movies) would never agree for such a lop sided deal. You can accuse the Chinese government of being opaque with their financial dealings, but most of the international distributors are US based and their books/yearly balance sheets are available in public domain.

I thought the movie was called Boycott Lal Singh Chaddha?

Calling for boycott of a Bollywood movie in this day and age is a bit like betting on a horse to lose.

Movies made in the South have enamoured the traditional captive audience in Bollywood's catchment areas with the quality of their content. Engaging stories, production values, modern narrative styles and excellent technical skills (Camerawork, VFX, BGM + mixing, editing...) They've lapped Bollywood filmmakers in all these and more.

If Bollywood ever wakes up, the first sign will be when it uses its trump card.

The one thing that draws people to Bollywood movies in general as well as for each particular movie that has succeeded since Raja Harishchandra is good music.

All of Amir's hit movies are as famed and remembered as the hit song(s) in it. Ghajini is an outlier i guess.

If there's anything that any of the Bollywood families know it is this. The Kapoors, the Chopras, the Bhatts, the Khans, the Barjatyas, the Mukherjees and the Hussains owe their success and their legacies to good music. And there is a drought of good music nowadays. I suppose it seems natural that the phase of remixed old hit songs of the past decade and a half is followed by a drought that has failed to bloom even one chart-topping, foot-tapping, play on repeat so much it f!ucks your algorithm up, good fuc=king song.

Genuinely good music comes from the soul and it seems Bollywood is having trouble finding some at the moment. And unless they hurry there is definitely a South movie in the future that will deliver and that will be that.

:puke:worthy acting

I have new found respect for Aamir after seeing this.

He considers himself as part of Islamic Qaum and does everything to potray them positively.

The real idiots are his non-muslim fans who do not see the reality.
