I don't think first class is a parameter anymore. It is a total waste playing Ranji.  IPL and SMAT are the only two parameters. Even Vijay Hazare is not used to pick teams. Then eye test, franchisee push.

Kotian should be part of the set up who did well against SA A. Selections are beyond these things. There are many forces operate from behind. BCCI is not as honest as we think.

Picking suthar over Kotian is baffling Picking so many GT players isn't a coincidence  Remember how Sudeep Tyagi and Mohit Sharma got national caps  and Ishwar Pandey got a national call  up when MSD was captaining India and CSK  The same went for Virat and now it’s Gill.

People are naive to think IPL politics not play a major role in team selections. Gony also played for India.

IPL teams are controlling the BCCI They will make Gill the T20 captain too

The test team has all the top order batsman ie Jaiswal, Rahul,Gill,Sai, Paddikal and don't have any specialist middle order batsman.

 

All the players would be fatiqued after playing non stop in IPL.

 

Our test team batting failure was hidden by Pant, Ashwin, Jadeja,Axar.In  this series Jadeja,Axar are not selected.

 

I hope we don't have a upset against Afghanistan.

A shocking defeat to Afghanistan might be the wake up call the BCCI needs to fix our Test team Gautam Gambhir’s red ball tactics are non existent and the current squad selection is a mess It’s baffling that the series loss against South Africa didn't already cost him his job as Test coach

Big IPL franchises try to influence a lot of selections. Not just T20Is and ODIs but also tests and India A.

 

You see an average player play a few games in the IPL and suddenly get his India cap which he could not despite years of grinding earlier.

 

But every selection is not such. TM often want certain player types to fit certain roles in Team India. And a certain lesser known player gets in due to this and his IPL affiliation gets questioned. This is sad for these players too.
