You cannot come into bat on these slow pitches and try to flick balls from off and middle over fine-leg. At least start your innings playing some regular shots and when you are sure of the pace of the pitch you can start with your go to strokes. Surya is extremely frustrating as he keeps playing the same shot again and again and keeps getting out. If he does not change his game plan, he may not last too long in this team. There are a lot of them waiting outside to make it into the playing XI and we cannot carry a non-performer for a log time. The worrying part is his SR which is constantly on a decline. His SR in 2023 was 156, 2024 was 151 and now in 2025 it is 124. His average in the years mentioned is 48, 26 and 13 respectively. So in 2025 in 8 innings he averages 13 with a horrible SR of 124. Unless he improves, I don't see how he makes our best T20I XI. He had bad Icc events events when he was good in good form. There is a clear pattern of how he starts his innings and how he is unable to perform vs good teams in icc events. With him and sanju Ind is going with 2 uncertain batters, there are cracks in this team and combination Frustrated 1
crictime Posted September 24, 2025 Posted September 24, 2025 SKY has strike rate of 166. In other thread some want to drop Sanju Samson whose strike rate is 148. This team has won 27 out of the last 30 T10i matches. Why would anyone mess with a highly successful T20i team.

This team has won 27 out of the last 30 T10i matches. Why would anyone mess with a highly successful T20i team. 1. Samson performed at the top of the order. He's pathetic lower down the order. If he has to bat lower than no. 3 he's not a good fit. If Samson has to be persisted with he needs to open else make way for another option like Jitesh Sharma lower down the order who's much more useful there than Samson. 2. SKY hasn't done much against better opponents. The reason for that is his reliance on cross batted shots, especially the one targeting behind the square area on the leg side. He gets away with it against poor bowling attacks in bi-laterals or when the pitch is extremely flat. But against 1st choice bowling attacks or when pitch is doing something he fails. SKY and Samson playing in middle order together is a recipe for disaster especially when we have better options. Getting Iyer and Jitesh Sharma in place of these two would solve these problems. Iyer slotting in at 3 would also allow us to push Tilak Varma at 3 which is his best batting spot.
crictime Posted November 2, 2025 Posted November 2, 2025 Can somone throw some light why Surya Kumar Yadav is playing just two specialist fielders in a match played in Australia. Why are selection tactics so bad.
bsriharsha Posted November 3, 2025 Posted November 3, 2025 I'd rather have KL bat than have Sanju and I feel KL isn't cut out for t20s as well. Gill can be a standby at best for t20s but he shouldn't be the first choice player. The solution to this can be very simple depending on whether bcci wants to take that step. -Jaiswal / Abhishek as opening batsmen Tilak , Rinku , wk , Axar , Sundar in the middle order Pandya , Bumrah, Kuldeep , Arshdeep as the 4 front line bowlers. Dube, Reddy as other batsmen who can bowl in the bench if needed. Akash , Siraj as backup fast bowlers. 4 front line bowlers plus Axar and Sundar who can bowl too. Keeping Pandya as mainly a bowler at this point as that's what we need for him. Bcci will keep Sky in though so it's unlikely that this team will ever see the light of the day atleast in the next world cup. But for teams to have some semblance of confidence in chasing big scores , it becomes mandatory that they have batting till 8 in t20s without compromising on the bowling department too
bsriharsha Posted November 3, 2025 Posted November 3, 2025 Only thing stopping us from being a really Gun T20 team is the fact that our keepers aren't cut out for the format. We've had good keepers coming through and even serviceable ones , but none who suit the T20 game.
Cloud9 Posted December 9, 2025 Posted December 9, 2025 Kick this guy out,he is much a headache as Gill is. Chakdephatte and BacktoCricaddict 1 1
tapandrun Posted December 9, 2025 Posted December 9, 2025 (edited) Looks like he is done, or teams may have found something. He only plays flick of pads and that ramp-pull shot vs pace and sweep vs off-spin. have lost all the off-side game , tries to play everything legside Edited December 9, 2025 by tapandrun BacktoCricaddict and helperononline 2
The Realist Posted December 9, 2025 Posted December 9, 2025 Project Sky Looks like in terminal decline but Gambhir will reward him with a test recall
Gollum Posted December 10, 2025 Posted December 10, 2025 Knowing GG, this clown will make a test comeback next season. Frustrated 1
deepdynamo Posted December 10, 2025 Posted December 10, 2025 Sky purple patch is over. Just hope he doesn't have a shocker of a T20 World Cup.
Gollum Posted December 10, 2025 Posted December 10, 2025 Gill and SKY in top 3, God save this team come KO time Frustrated 1
tapandrun Posted December 10, 2025 Posted December 10, 2025 12 minutes ago, Gollum said: Gill and SKY in top 3, God save this team come KO time Every team is trying to weed-out the accumulators from the t20i side and Ind brought one as VC and they also plan to have Sundar when the captain himself is struggling for runs. Even pak tried to weed-out babar and rizwan from t20is they are the biggest stars. Tough pak had to bring in Babar they are still not bringing back rizwan. And they seriously tried to keep babar out too. Gollum 1
Gollum Posted December 10, 2025 Posted December 10, 2025 Come KO time and we will have Gill, SKY, Sundar, Axar in our top 7. If Jaddu hadn't retired, even he would have filled one of the 8 designated AR spots. At this point I will be happy if we don't bring back KL.
Sooda Posted December 10, 2025 Posted December 10, 2025 He is past his best now a style that is especially reliant on reflexes and co ordination and age catches up. But he ait going anywhere soon and with WC round the corner it is too big a change. so I would have him opening the batting with Abhishek Hard new ball coming on to the bat would suit him best Drop the golden child Gill and play Rinku at 6 move Tilak, Axar, Hardik up a slot. None of this will of course happen
Chaos Posted December 10, 2025 Posted December 10, 2025 He used to play well off side before. Now all he tried to flick or sweep tapandrun 1
NameGoesHere Posted December 10, 2025 Posted December 10, 2025 This is the Great Indian Way of selection. Australian teams usually get rid of their players at the right time. We keep them way past their utility, Sky being the example. Then we try to fit in players based on preconceived notions. Gill. We seem to lack the integrity to hold off current ‘stars’ or the determination to get rid of former stars past their prime. BacktoCricaddict 1
Vickydev Posted December 11, 2025 Posted December 11, 2025 @BacktoCricaddict threads have a shelf life. Rinku is so far lost he doesnt make the squads anymore. Need to check what other threads he has started and make selections accordingly BacktoCricaddict 1
