The fault squarely lies on the shoulders of those indians who love to take a moral high ground on so called authoritarianism and believe that by carrying americas water and taking on china they will make the world a better place.

If only anything Indian government for long ever since even Congress days have been in the bad books of US Of A.

There's a simple fact that US wants India to be its puppet state for long...  But hasn't been able to do.  Modi too has after initial efforts now maintains his distance as he also realized what they are up to.   Current Pakistan regime is in CIA's pocket.  India does its balancing act with the US coz it has to.

Coming to Chinese...  India was actually very passive after Galwan clash.  You can see what Modi did in that address after the clash.  Koi nhi ghussa he said.  Leaving everyone who knew what went down angry.  There were so many explanations by MEA after that in coming days.  Fact is he didn't want to risk his term.   A Future PM will have to deal with China on our border.

Imagine Indira doing the same in 1967.  Sikkim would have been a Chinese occupied land.  Instead it's now a Indian state.

There is a lot of difference between Tibet in the 60s and today's situation.

There is a world of difference between the infrastructure along the borders of both countries. The Chinese have railways right upto the borders, whereas we have neglected Ladakh and border areas until late. We are playing catchup. The difference in the infra we have in place now vs even 2 yrs back is insane. You have to go through passes like Changla, Zojila etc. to understand the enormity of the deficit. Hats off to the Border Roads Org to have caught up so quickly - but there is a lot of red to erase. Until we can match the Chinese even to 1/10th of their infra it is an uneven fight. The Chinese can roll up a few 100k soldiers and tanks to our borders in a matter of hours whereas it would take us weeks to do the same atm.

In the 60s both sides had the same disadvantages. Now it is lopsided towards one side. Transformation of Ladakh into a UT and removing 370 is the greatest thing to have happened to our defence in this area. In 2 yrs the BRO has done an amazing job catching up on infra. Hopefully, we are able to gain a foothold to counter the Chinese soon. So to counter what you said - we have not been passive since Galwan. We are trying to regain balance vs a much more prepared enemy. This requires more than chest-thumping. The way the Army has gone about this task quietly with a blank cheque given by the current govt is nothing short of heroic.

Btw we drove past the prep work for these tunnels. They are being prepared on a war footing. Cannot understate how important this will be for our defence of Ladakh and J&K

The first tunnel should be ready in 2 yrs from now. Currently the Zojila pass is not operational in the winters/snow. It is a hair-raising journey for sure. Cannot imagine how truckers and big vehicles drive here! The amt of traffic seen here is immense!

It will reduce the journey between Ladakh and J&K by almost 3 hrs and be open year around.
