kumble_rocks
I could name plenty of legends who never won a World Cup but are still regarded as the greatest of all time. Cruyff' date=' Weah, Baggio, Bergkamp, Schmeichel, Gullit, Hierro, Batistuta etc. All legends in their own right. Winning the World Cup does add to a great player's reputation, but it doesn't exactly set them apart.[/quote'] Your point is well taken but I would still argue that you need to play well in the world cup , not necessarily win it because after all it's a team sport. Cruyff did play well in the world cup except against Germany , Baggio played well in the 1990 world cup although he choked in the penalties in the subsequent one,Bergkamp did not perform that well for Holland in the world cup.. Both Lampard and Rooney ( to a lesser extent ) were very average in this World Cup .... No way close to their hype !
Predator_05
Bergkamp was excellent in the 1998 World Cup. His goal vs Argentina was probably the goal of the tournament. ...and yes, English players are overrated by their media and their public but that doesn't mean they aren't good players.
