Corruption....  Babudom..  root cause of Indian misery.  Incompetent,  corrupt people are in every step here,  in every field.

OM shanti to the departed souls..  I heard little kids were there too

Sad incidence. I have walked on that bridge - it is called Jhulta Pool ... One side of the bridge is LE College and on the other side Wagh Mahal (if I got the name correct).

You may have been little that time (agewise)... seeing this jhulta pul vids, i would have never stepped onto it...it seemed too long, too narrow, too risky, too fragile and honestly, too stupid...

It can be scary but it gives a sense of adventure … There are not too many such bridges around so relatively unique … It is also one of the known symbols of the town.

But I guess now it is being mishandled. I am told that the renovation was also probably not done properly. There is no way it can take so many ppl.

This bridge is one of the symbols of the town. Morbi has some interesting old architecture as well.  Imagine if it were in Europe, how well maintained and tourist friendly these sites could have been!

Since you are a mod....you should be the last one to post some propaganda material on this tragic incident....Sigh

See, AAP has a history. They know that one live Suicide in AAP rally gave Kejri Delhi. No amount of lack of evidence can change my opinion   , that The person who attempted suicide was promised that  that they will bring him down safely. For victim, it was an act only . Check mandal commission protest deaths before questioning it. Do not underestimate cold calculated nature of politicians of India when it comes sacrificing general population.

Saying that, This is huge tragedy. Forget 150, bridge doesn’t seems fit for 50 people. 650 is far too many. After hooch tragedy, this is second big tragedy in BJPs Gujrat. So in my opinion, BJP to be blamed and it needs to ask questions to its Gujrati leaders.

No doubt about that, although this particular instance goes to Morbi's local administration. Why did a clock maker get the project to renovate a 230 meter long 19th century bridge ? Why do you need to have prohibition in 21st century ? The answer almost always boils down to crony capitalism & :money:

PS: its Gujarat and not Gujrat

No, las per news, Clock maker didn’t get it. Most likely DM and politician wanted their palm to be greased  before awarding the contract. Both MLA and DM need to be arrested. But they decided to arrest security guard.

Looks like BJP politicians ( MLA level) now in power for so long in Gujarat have started following Congress era playbook.

It is not known how Oreva group — which specialises in CFL bulbs, wall clocks and e-bikes — was awarded the contract to maintain and manage the bridge by the Morbi municipality

Extremely disturbing videos. People being encouraged to shake to get a wild experience by vloggers. No authorities to control them. People shaking it just before the tragedy

Bridges etc are civil engg, I recall distinctly from high school physics, in the chapter on oscillations, the concept of resonance & soldiers not marching on bridges. It's too much to expect from the mango people to apply high school science to everyday lives.
