Afridi would walk into any Pakistani whiteball team as a bowler. He was player of the tournment in 2007 and Mom in both semifinals and finals in 2009. Pandya is not even half the player Afridi was, but Pandya still is needed for this Indian team.

Afridi is a T20I ATG, not a white ball ATG.

He was basically a white ball great when he took his bowling as main role around mid-2000s and it lasted till 2011. Apart from that, he was mostly bits and pieces.

Afridi had just 6 or 7 memorable knocks in his career spanning over twenty years.

You don't need 100 memorable innings. He has over 400 wickets in odis and 8000 runs.and was player of tournament in both shorter formats. Pandya in his wildest dreams would not reach those figures.

Maybe ATG in his district. He is no way near being an ATG in ODI cricket. He may have been if his batting and bowling averages were reversed.

How is he not a ATG in ODI cricket. 8000 runs and 400 wickets? batting  23 avg with SR over 177 is not bad at all for a bowler with 400 wickets?

MO batsmen are judged more on the ability to play per the situation and handle pressure. If a player walks in at 30/4, his SR is going to be different. If the batsman comes in at the death, where he has to attack from ball one, the SR would depend on the rhythm on the day.

Dhoni, Bevan, etc. may not necessarily score high on SR but are known for their ability to play per the situation and handle pressure. Pant too if he plays to his potential can be a gamechanger .... Many MO players also perform with the ball, which brings additional dimensions into play!

You are comparing different formats. In ODIs, Afridi batting average 23, pandya 33. Afridi 395 wickets in 398 games. Pandya 63 wickets in 66 games. Not much difference in both.

Robin Singh has a batting average of 29 and bowling average of 24 in ICC tournaments. Pandya is poorest man's Robin Singh. :giggle:

Pandya is averaging 16 with the ball this WC. Averages 41 with the har.

He won't be dropped...can't be. AR who has a lot of ability

But he needs to add more to his batting shot selection. Been figured out a bit and needs to work on his game

Also there's no point using up balls to set yourself and giving your wicket away cheaply, he is not and won't be the last to be guilty of this but you put that pressure on yourself you have to back it. Comes with experience - keep the scoreboard ticking dont just back yourself for big shots only

I am comparing their abilities. Afridi had ability to hit any bowler on his day. Pandya SR of 102 demonstrates his inability to hit.

Afridi was from an era slightly after SRT, he did face a lot of spinners, reverse swing & brutal pacers! Are you seriously comparing someone who usually batted lower down the order, with just one new ball, & lots of "help" to bowlers with Sobers lite? Surely you can't be this delusional :whack:

While Panda may have more ability with the bat, brining Afridi's numbers without context is just plain BS.

Who should bat ahead of him?

A pure batsman. Maybe Pant or Kartik if he is playing. This TM have *ed up royally while giving roles to players in XI.. Played umpteen matches before WT20 but never tried DK at 5. Their rigid approach in fitting DK in this XI was appalling..You aren't going to need Finisher (If there is) in every match but you are going to need proper bat at 5 in every match. If Kartik wasn't good enough to play at 5,he should never be picked.
