Bitter truth. But purely on merit he should not be anywhere close to the team. Skills with bat does not matter when the player is selfish and mentally not up for the challenge.

It’s not about skills. In BCCI setup you need good connections & good social media following (with help from Bollywood connection). If you manage to become captain of any IPL team, it’s an added bonus…

There should be psychoanalysis of players who captain or open the batting. All GaanPhattu players, no matter how skilful or stylish, should be discarded or not given responsibility to captain or open the batting.

Rohit’s case is different. He’s not fit enough to be in T20 team… He could’ve done wonders 2-3 years ago when Kohli was the Boss of everything. As I said, in Indian cricket, there’s a selection/opportunity phase lag of Atleast 2 years.

I agree with that last paragraph. Those who are dancing at this moment thinking Kohli would have done wonders as a captain are living in lala land. K Kohli did jackshit as captain even when he was in pristine form because he has those same fundamental issues in terms of nepotism and disregard for meritocracy, his last two years of captaincy was particularly eyesore with no strategic intent. The rot was very well established during the Kohli's tenure, unfortunately Rohit continues to take it forward with added impetus on trundlers. Rohit may have got the captaincy late but there is no justification for him to be overweight like an elephant and play in slow motion and the had audacity of blaming the trundlers whom he has selected in the first place.

We need to completely build from scratch , eliminate the existing crop barring 3-4 folks when it comes to T20 and decouple it from traditional formats particularly Test cricket.
