No - That is why we appreciate people who had great club careers like Maradona at Napoli and Maradona in WC.

Like Pele at Santos and Pele in internationals

Like Zidane at Juventus and Zidane in WC.

Like Iniesta at Barcelona and Iniesta at WC "aned" with Spain in general.

Like Brazilian Ronaldo at Real Madrid and with Brazil in WC.

Fluking in the WC for 7 games is one thing.... laying eggs over multiple WC is also another thing.q

Ronaldo did not have a great club career, he won one league title in his entire career and did nothing of note in the Champions League apart from that hattrick against Man Utd. He had two good world cups in 1998 and 2002 and two good Copa Americas in 1997 and 1999.

Maradona won three league titles in his entire career, Barcelona actually won their first La Liga in 11 years immediately after his departure. But I thought he was a one man army who could make minnows Argentina and Napoli champions! In the European Cup (the precursor to the champions league) he got knocked out in the first round in his first appearance and in the second round in his second appearance. He had one good World Cup in 1986 and did nothing of note in the Copa America.

Zidane had a better club career with his 4 league titles and one champions league win. He had a good world cup in 2006 and one good Euro in 2000.

Messi's club achievements just eclipse all three of these put together. Even at international level where he is criticised he has had four good Copa Americas with two player of the tournament awards and one victory, he has one World Cup final in which he was also player of the tournament.

Their international career might arguably be slightly better than his but his club career is light years ahead of theirs. Do you understand this difference.

Anyway we can go on about this forever, this will be the last I post on this matter.

Could careless about club stats. Meaningless like bilaterals and IPL stats.

Italy , Russia  are not in the WC, but teams like Costa Rica, Wales are. It’s a travesty . Probably it’s tougher to win UEFA Euro cup title than the WC. Italy was the Euro 2020 champions should have automatically qualified

You sound like Roberto Baggio who said the same thing.

The fact is that Italy weren't good enough. If you can't even beat Macedonia in qualifying then you don't deserve to be in the World Cup.

Italy have been absolutely awful in the World Cup since winning it in 2006, two group stage exits followed by not qualifying twice in a row. They actually lost to Costa Rica in 2014.

What does that tell you about the Euro Cup? A cup that even Greece were able to win and also a very average Portugal in 2016. Those two teams would never win the World Cup.

Russia have never been a great team, even when the USSR was a good team the best players were from Ukraine. Them reaching the quarter finals last time was due to home advantage.

Too many causal comments.
