Where have I dropped SKY ?

He is my No.4 in ODIs. Check the list again.

All the names after " / " are injury covers for that position. You always need backups ready to cover for Bumrah or Jadeja type of injury situations.

okay I thought SKY was one of the options alongside Shreyas.

1. Gill / ??

2. Pant / Shaw

3. Kohli / Samson

4. SKY / Shreyas

5. Rahul / Shreyas

6. Hardik ( c ) / Bawa

7. Jadeja / Shahbaz / Tewatia

8. Kuldeep / Bishnoi

9. Prasidh / Mohsin / Bishnoi ( if spinning track )

10. Bumrah / Siraj

11. Sen / Umran

... Names after " / " are injury covers in most cases

... Rahul has to bat at 5 and NOT open

... There has to be 1 dashing opener

... Get one really quick guy like Sen or Umran

... Replace a pacer with Bishnoi if spinning track.

good lineup, jaiswal will be a good backup for dhull.

1. SKY

2. Shaw

3. Pant (wk)

4. samson

5. Tilak/s. iyer

6. hardik

7. sundar

4 bowlers

all of top 7, barring sundar to an extent, are very fast scorers. we should go all guns blazing

We should ideally target 18 players only and give them all ODIs till WC.

No point trying out fancy picks only to be discarded near the WC.

Here are my 18 players.
Back them , give them game time, define their role and go for it.

Openers:

Dhawan ( since he is undroppable)
Rohit
Gill

Middle Order and WK:
Kohli
Rahul

Pant

Sky

Iyer

Allrounders:
Pandya
Jadeja
Thakur

Chahar

Spinners:
Yuzi

Kuldeep

Pacers:
Bumrah

Shami

Siraj

Prasidh

If TM waste game time on players like Ishan, Samson, Hooda, Shaw, Dhull, Jaiswal, Giakwad, Shahbaz, Axar, Ashwin, Washington, Arshdeep, Bhuvi, Umran etc. then its going to be too much confusion with no role clarity.

I think you need a replacement probably for Pandya so either Sundar or Hooda should also be in that 18.

I thought about washington sundar in place of either thakur or Chahar but realistically with Jadeja in, he won't get much game time anyway.

But he ia definetly my 19th pick keeping in mind both Jadeja and Pandya are suspect to injuries.

We should target 20-21 players, not 18 though because you can pretty much guarantee that 2-3 of them will be injured too.

So, apart from your 18, I will add three more names :

Washington Sundar

Sanju Samson

Umran Malik/Arshdeep( genuine pace or left arm pace bowler)

Focus on your main 18 and have these three in your scheme of things too. Ignore the rest.

Fair Point!

Here is the updated 22 players list and lets hope TM sticks to these only.
No point bringing in new players just one year prior to world cup.

Pant

Sky

Samson ( purely a backup)

Allrounders:

Chahar
Washington  ( purely a backup)

Spinners:
Yuzi

Kuldeep

Pacers:
Bumrah

Shami

Siraj

Indian experts like Gavaskar, Akash Chopra, Irfan Pathan etc on Dhawan and KL Rahul:-

"What wrong have they done to not be selected in the team? Aap Shikhar Dhawan ko drop karege?? kL Rahul ko drop karege?"

Me - "Abe Ben Stokes, aankh khol aur stats nikal kar dekh, what wrong they did?"

They make sure Dhawan and Rohit will open....India will score 70-75 for 1 in first 15 overs and match will be done and dusted with such tuk tuk .

Keep in mind ,World Cup will played in the month of October - November, when dew will play a big role .Winning the toss ,and batting first will be suicidal in such conditions. They will need to score 325+ runs in such conditions if they bat first else forget about defending anything .

             23. M Siraj
             24. U Malik

After 2023 IPL, the list may change according to the form. TM hopefully selects in form players rather than players acc. to yesteryear form. Competition for No.4, will be between S Iyer vs SK Yadav till the World Cup, Strong may prevail

Are Pant and KL openers in ODis still? I thought the consensus was that KLs best position in ODIs is around 5 or 6 which would be around the 30th over.

There's no space for him there.

Hes still better than Dhawan though I prefer Pant
