All the names after " / " are injury covers for that position. You always need backups ready to cover for Bumrah or Jadeja type of injury situations.

okay I thought SKY was one of the options alongside Shreyas.

batting till 8, nos. 9-11 can also bat a bit. as many as 4 part-time bowling options.

No backups for injury prone Bumrah. Add Zaheer there as well.

We should ideally target 18 players only and give them all ODIs till WC.

 

No point trying out fancy picks only to be discarded near the WC.

Here are my 18 players.
Back them , give them game time, define their role and go for it.

Openers:

Dhawan ( since he is undroppable)
Rohit
Gill

Middle Order and WK:
Kohli

Pant

Allrounders:
Pandya
Jadeja
Thakur

If TM waste game time on players like Ishan, Samson, Hooda, Shaw, Dhull, Jaiswal, Giakwad, Shahbaz, Axar, Ashwin, Washington, Arshdeep, Bhuvi, Umran etc. then its going to be too much confusion with no role clarity.

I think you need a replacement probably for Pandya so either Sundar or Hooda should also be in that 18.

I thought about washington sundar in place of either thakur or Chahar but realistically with Jadeja in, he won't get much game time anyway.

 

But he ia definetly my 19th pick keeping in mind both Jadeja and Pandya are suspect to injuries.

We should target 20-21 players, not 18 though because you can pretty much guarantee that 2-3 of them will be injured too.

 

So, apart from your 18, I will add three more names :

 

Washington Sundar

Sanju Samson

Umran Malik/Arshdeep( genuine pace or left arm pace bowler)

 

Focus on your main 18 and have these three in your scheme of things too. Ignore the rest.

They make sure Dhawan and Rohit will open....India will score 70-75 for 1 in first 15 overs and match will be done and dusted with such tuk tuk .

 

Keep in mind ,World Cup will played in the month of October - November, when dew will play a big role .Winning the toss ,and batting first will be suicidal in such conditions.They will need to score 325+ runs in such conditions if they bat first else forget about defending anything .

There's no space for him there.

 

Hes still better than Dhawan though I prefer Pant
