Top order batting woes aside we have an incredibly strong lower order at home which Aus doesn't have.

Jadeja

Ashwin

Axar

Umesh

Siraj

Genuine batting (atleast at home) till no 9 and even Umesh can play a dashing cameo at no 10.

Man if Pant and Iyer were fit, we would easily blast them 4-nil.

3 months ago I was so excited about this series because we had Pant and Iyer who plays spin well.

With those two outs, Im worried.

I have been talking a lot about our lower order out batting Australia's. My genuine concern is if one of Australia's top order has a sublime series. We have no India batsman that can bat well, bat for time and bat big.

Yes the Aussie top order appears stronger in this series. Ours needs to stand up.

Good thing that Gill has hit form and Rohit performs well at home even on difficult pitches. I see them both doing well in this series.

K s bharath is a v good batsman . More in the mould of Rahul Dravid . I wouldn’t be surprised if he is top scorer in this series . His keeping is incredible .

as regards Ayer , he is a bigger loss if not playing . Thankfully , rohit , gill in form . Kohli , Rahul will have big question marks . Pujara will be ok . Having jadeja axar ashwin at 7 8 9 will be fantastic . Ashwin is gonna be a thorn in their flesh .

If KL and Kohli can score a combined total of 50 runs each innings, I would take that as a win.

Home series performanec by Indians in the last 3 years

Trimurthis has become Bimurthis now.  This Gujara got the fake man of the series award in Bangladesh after scoring a 100 on a road.  His usual method is boring the opposition for 5 or 6 hours and then scoring. But oflate after boring them he gets out.

Karthik said, “In Shreyas Iyer’s place, Suryakumar Yadav should get a chance instead of Shubman Gill. I feel SKY is a better player of spin bowling, and we will play on turning tracks. Give him a chance, as he has been in red-hot form."

its almost confirmed SKY  will play now.

KKD is talking bakwas. Does he get confused with formats?

Gill has the better temperament to play Test Cricket compared to SKY, not to mention he has already proven himself at Test level.

I would have SKY ahead of Kohli, KL and Pujara, but this is never ever going to happen.

So for 3 years of sample size, Ashwin has a better record than Kohli, Pujara in terms of runs scored, 100s, average and SR.

I mean thats a significant sample size too.

Look at the pattern of the dismissals.

Pujara got out 7 out of 10 times to spinners. We could see that in the 2nd test in BD

Kohli got out 9 out of 11 times to spinners. We could see the same in 2nd test in Bangladesh. Saw even in ODi against santner.

Kohli alarmingly got bowled 4 times leg before 4 times.  This is going to be a train wreck of a series.

Kohli is finished, its just a matter of when its going to happen. If he fails in this series its the end of him.

Incredible to think a top order batsman can go for years without scoring a century. A century is not just the only parameter, but it is a key factor.

Winning test matches is about playing long innings both with time and runs. In Kohl's case he has scored just 2 50s to go with 3 ducks during that time.

Go for gamble and pick best 6 batsman, give KL gloves.

Australian bowling line up would be in big trouble facing following line up.

Rohit (C)

Gill

Pujara

Kohli

KL (WK)

SKY

R Jadeja

R Ashwin

Axar

Shami

Siraj

Has KL ever kept for Ranji??

If KL was even just barely competent as wicketkeeper, it really does strengthen India with this line up.

Kohli, KL are both automatic Uncle Locks so we have no choice here, but having KL keep wickets allows us to play both Gill and SKY.

I dont know what the stats are both IIRC a lot of wickets in these low slow turning pitches are LBW and bowled.

lol KLR captained in BD. No way he's missing out

In their infinite wisdom , selectors have named him the squad’s vC. So, he will open and let Gill play MO or vice-versa. Vihari will warm the bench

I would go with Axar in this squad

Pant is sorely missed. Fear India losing a test or two or even the series after 10 years at home
