Gill would have played anyway imo,he is in red hot form..good luck to SKY because he is going to need it,Test cricket is vastly different to T20s but i hope he plays his natural game,if the ball is there to be hit then he needs to go for it.

Iyer maybe good against spin but australia will plan and bowl cummins & morris against him specially early in his innings. Even on indian pitches he can get out on bouncer. Gill is proper long term option for #5 and in future for #4.

I think Iyer would have struggled against Cummins with short bowl. 
 

Gill at #4 and Kohli should move to #5.

Top order batting woes aside we have an incredibly strong lower order at home which Aus doesn't have.

Genuine batting (atleast at home) till no 9 and even Umesh can play a dashing cameo at no 10. 

 

Man if Pant and Iyer were fit, we would easily blast them 4-nil.

3 months ago I was so excited about this series because we had Pant and Iyer who plays spin well.

 

With those two outs, Im worried.

 

I have been talking a lot about our lower order out batting Australia's. My genuine concern is if one of Australia's top order has a sublime series. We have no India batsman that can bat well, bat for time and bat big.

Yes the Aussie top order appears stronger in this series. Ours needs to stand up.

 

Good thing that Gill has hit form and Rohit performs well at home even on difficult pitches. I see them both doing well in this series.

K s bharath is a v good batsman . More in the mould of Rahul Dravid . I wouldn’t be surprised if he is top scorer in this series . His keeping is incredible . 
 

as regards Ayer , he is a bigger loss if not playing . Thankfully , rohit , gill in form . Kohli , Rahul will have big question marks . Pujara will be ok . Having jadeja axar ashwin at 7 8 9 will be fantastic . Ashwin is gonna be a thorn in their flesh .
