Laxman's failure was mostly the fault of how they used him. With 3/4/5 slots set he was randomly slotted in the batting order. That charade continued until SCG century.  Even in 2001 series, he was batting at 6.  Only after Eden gardens test his position became a steady one. In the 2000s Laxman's average was 50.  Only player to score over 2000 runs against that ATG Australian side for that 10 year period.
