he doesn't care much about cricket I think. as long as IPL moolah flows in, int'l cricket is just a bonus and he knows he won't get kicked out due to backing of TM

To be fair Venky was not getting personal with KL Rahul. He is merely expressing his opinion based on his entire career. Not just recent flops in Tests. That is a poor average over a period.  He still has a lot to prove in Tests. He needs a terrific run like 3 or 4 fifties couple of centuries like that.

He gets centuries but is followed by string of low scores.

 

Still better than Pujara and maybe even Kohli currently as long as he bats in middle.

Precisely it makes him unreliable. When you get into form you should sustain it for a period. Cannot lose it in the very next Test.

KLR has been good in Bilaterals ODIs lately. What has changed? The guy sucked in t20s, dropped. Now sucked in tests, dropped. Mostly will never come back in both the formats.. Nothing wrong in what Venky Mama said.

KL has done well as a middle order batsman in ODIs while also being the designated keeper.

 

That does not and should not imply he should open in ODIs or T20s or Tests. He is a $hit show as an opener.

 

He should be kept as our designated keeper batsman in ODIs at least for now.
