England's absence robs World Test Championship final of 'Bazball' buzz

yes, getting rolled out on a greener-than-usual (oval is not green) pitch seems likely to me

I think Unadkat is a good gamble. This guy is generating bounce on docile Bangla wickets, Indian wickets. Bowling with accuracy.  Bumrah/Shami/Unadkat/Siraj will be worth a go. But i think they may go with Thakur?

Problem is we have **** batsmen. So we need bowlers who can bat too. That's where the balance is not in our favour.

Number 8 and to an extent 9 need to bar.

Oz number lineup 6-11 would be:

Green at 6

Wk carey

Cummins who can bat - 8 (15-20 runs)

Starc - again can bat

Lyon

Hazlewood or lance

Ours would be

Bhaart kishan at 6

Jadds at 7

Undacutta at 8 (expect 12-20 here)

Here is the problem

Shami at 9

Siraj at 10

Bumrah/sen at 11

it's actually not too bad if traditional oval exists, in which case ass-win would play. In that specific scenario, then we would have (just batting ability-wise):

jaddu at 6 > green at 6

ass-win at 7 < carey at 7

bharathi at 8 > cummer at 8 [bharathi is a better bat than what some people give credit for]

shambu at 9 < starc at 9

boomer at 10 = Lion at 10

siraj at 11 < hazelnut at 11

overall, not too bad.

Bharat will create a huge imbalance. He is largely an unknown quantity both as a keeper and batsman.  Probably he may play a crucial role one way or the other. We don't have too many options either.

We have largely untested fast bowlers. With Bumrah possibly missing the WTC  we will be left with aging Shami, Siraj, Umesh, Thakur. Umesh can go either way in English conditions. Can be utterly crap or surprise us because of his bowling style.  Thakur can swing. Oflate he has become utterly crap and brainless. Bowling half way down the wicket pointlessly.  This is where taller Unadkat may come into picture as he can bowl both and over the wicket and round the wicket with accuracy and create roughs for spinners.

I think it will be enough to beat Australia this year. Don't forget Australia haven't won here for 20+ years, and faced some pretty weak English sides in 2019 and 2015, which they still couldn't beat over a series. India next year will be a different matter, but everyone gets thrashed there so it doesn't really concern me

agreed. eng losing in ind is no big deal, but they could win - pull off their miracle from 2011. that would be a big achievement.

bharath is fine for no. 8, maybe even for no. 7. he's not pant, but could give 25-30 runs - that's ok for no. 8

England will lose to India in India easily.

However, Australia will mentally eat them and whip their asses down under. Will be the downfall of Ben Stokes and the so called Bazball.

England can lose to both in England itself. If they prepare green wickets it will backfire badly. It has to be ultra flat and hope they can outbat us.

if it's on the flatter side, eng can chase 400 without too much hassle. and even on flattish tracks, andie, ollie, wood/archer will be a good combo
