Has Virat Kohli given all his detractors a big phainty

Even among the poor batsmen, Kohli is one of the poorest. That makes him even worse. Given the batting position he and Pujara occupy, given the experience  they have we cannot compare them with inexperienced players, noobs who have done marginally better than him. We cannot keep players based on comparison like we did with Rahane. Pujara is also like that. Score a random 50 somewhere and keep his place safe for another one year. It is not like Kohli was going through a bad patch. He was technically found out. So jury is stil out there whether he actually regained form.

No one said he was good .Last three years all the Indian batsmen including old and young have stunk. He was lone man standing for over a decade. He was found out technically in past also .He worked out his issues before then let us see if he can work out his issues now.

He has turned it around in whiteball cricket. He is not some run of the mill player, he is the best overall batsman of this generation.

In Kohlis case it's just a matter of it not coming together for him for an extended period of time. His game has always been the same with its weaknesses and strengths which everyone knew about for him to anyway overcome it through sheer force of will to make runs and it doesn't seem like he has lost a second in reflexes. Maybe it's just about being in a clear headspace or luck turning.

Lmao. He was? He had 4-5 good years as a test bat. A flop in ODIs that matter.

An honest assessment would place him marginally above Vengasarkar as a test bat.

Which idiot will assess him like that, Vengy or any other  indian batsmen  other than couple are not even fit to tie his shoelaces in test cricket.

He is 1000 times better odi batsman than Sachin ever was in his career.

Really? Has Kohli scored 3 centuries on the trot at Lords? Has he been part of a series win in England with significant contributions as a batsman? Has he ever displayed the skill to destroy quality spin bowling, something Vengsarkar did as a teenager against the famed spinners of the Indian team? There's no need to denigrate past cricketers in comparison to present ones.

What denigrate?

If you call someone like Vengasarkar as good as Kohli then you deserve all the flak.

Also who told you Kohli never destroyed Quality spin, lol.

Go watch how he scored a century against Swann, Panesar when other legends failed

Go watch how he used to destroy Saeed Ajmal the unplayable chucker.

Watch him destroy Lyon in 2013

Check his stats against Rangana Herath.

There's No need to overrate the past, Vengasarkar is not good enough to tie Kohli's shoelaces.

Ye toh kuch zyada ho gya.
Him and most of the batters these days average in high 40's and 50's....this was uncommon in the era when Sachin played.
Martin Guptill averages 41 in ODI's, while likes of Nathan Astle and Martin Crowe averages in 30's. Even Brian Lara averages less than Guptill.

Kohli is a great batsman in ODI's, may better than all players for India but not more than Sachin (who has played almost 30-40% of his ODI matches with likes of Sidhu, Manjarekar, Fixeruddin, Srikkanth, More who all were just bang average batters). Nowadays the ODI games are heavily in favour of batters with 2 new ball rules (which eliminated reverse swing), computer stitched seam which balance the ball at either sides avoiding any movement due to imbalance, and powerplay un-restrictions.

Swann and Panesar won the series for England, same phase, really?

Herath was at his best when Kohli destroyed him and Herath is probably the greatest SLAO of all time along with Bedi maybe.

The fourth match wasn't a dead rubber, lol.

The lengths you are going to defend your comment....

You are being intellectually dishonest.

It wasn't , offcourse did India win it?

Question still remains, what was he doing in first three tests,no notable contribution

Kohli destroyed Swann- Panesar on flat slow track of Nagpur. Scored 103 out of 188 he scored in whole series. Actually Chepu scored well against Swann-Monty but even that won't call him "destroying"..But well, what can you say about Kohli fans...Let them live in lala land...

Edit - Chepu actually destroyed Swann-Panesar.. Averaged 87. Still can't see @zen saying Chepu destroyed them...And yeah Ashwin averaged 60 with bat in that series scoring 243 while Kohli scored 188 averaging 31.. :phehe:

Who said scoring 3 100s at lords is a bench mark of being a great batsman. Sachin and Sunill Gavaskar have zero 100s at Lords. Is Vengy better batsman than both Sunil and Sachin.

Kohli avgerages 60 in India which is better than any other Indian batsmen including Sunil or Sachin .He has his own method to deal with spin bowling.

Vegsarkar was decent  batsmen but he is not in the same ball park as Kohli.

No one is denigrating  Vengasarkar .

I don't think so , Kohli is better odi batsman than Sachin ever,  It is not even close imo.

Kohli's game is built for odis, he would have avgeraged 60 in any era.Sachin game was for most part was built on playing built on scoring risky runs early in the innings and then slowing down as he neared 100.That was his template.

Kohli's game is built of building innings playing risk free cricket by taking singles and doubles. He would do very well in any era of odi cricket.

Correction its a phainty.

Jokes apart, like it or leave it it was a decent hand which arguably saved the series.

Notwithstanding all the easy patta runs chatter, would someone else have stepped up and made those runs probably/probably not :dontknow:.

But can this innings in any way be prophesied as the start of Brat Kulche waale din ? Only time will tell.

For me, the less he indulges in wokery during his remaining playing years, the better. Save the wokery for the post retirement phase when there's time aplenty for it.

The delusions somehow still in ingrained in minds of Sachins' fans is beyond comical.

Sachin was nothing more than steady eddy who played for 20 years. There is a reason why he never reached 900 rating  in either odis or tests.
