More than that, can he even keep for 5 days in a row? It is a different thing to keep in a T20 game, but a Test match is a totally different story. If he starts having back spasms after a day of keeping, then who will keep?

He will be a match winner with his keeping - for our opponents by dropping a few dollies. This guy HATES pressure, thinks it's unfair to be expected to perform well in big games! Pick him only as filler material for dead rubber games, where he will dazzle with his stroke-play.

Keeping is a specialist job. Especially Test keeping. He may be better than Bharat. But t hat is a pretty low bar.

Bharat is no Saha with the gloves. Might as well try Kishan or KL. We need all the batting we can in the final.

Kl Rahul will definitely be a better choice than both Bharat and Kishan.

Kishan won't be able to perform in English conditions, while Rahul actually has a couple of centuries there.

What If he drops marnus or smith at a crucial time??

Kela will certainly play

Completely agree. By the time the match arrives the Peerless KL will be penciled in before everyone else.

There is something about the Peerless KL - all prominent ex-players seem in awe of him. He must be doing something right.

That's a very bad call by Sunil. India need to stop picking players for their ability to bat. I thought that we had come a long way since forcing Dravid to keep for team balance days. KS Bharat has been a disappointment to be frank. His batting was okay but his keeping was poor. Pant was bad as well at the start but again he was young and at the start of his career. Bharat has years of experience in FC cricket keeping on such surfaces and you would expect him to be better.

The problem is that we don't have many options. Ishan Kishen can be picked but I am not sure how good his keeping is in Tests. I feel that in England Ishan will be fine with gloves as most of it will be standing back. His batting though I am not sure. KL Rahul should stay away from the Test team for now unless he goes back to domestic cricket and scores loads of runs. His keeping is good enough for LO cricket only. For now in the absence of Pant, we only have Ishan Kishen or Bharat as options.

Someone who played traditional cricket for long period would have advocated for specialist keeper not makeshift keeper.

That's not necessarily true for Eng, even some of the ATG like Gilly had consistent issues keeping there! MS was also especially shoddy, if KL can keep consistently (avg or slightly above) he can be an option. If you are asking for abetter keeper just on a whim or a one off WTC game in Eng - you won't find one!

Any keeper who has kept in longer formats have better chance of focusing for longer periods.  KL Rahul has never done keeping in longer formats.  It is a case of having a lengthy batting line up. Unfortunately Bharat was downright mediocre with keeping and ball. So they go with the logic what can go wrong.

i had some hope for Bharat but its clear we have to find another keeper because he isnt the one.
