Tyagi has this problem from very long,I have pointed out this since 2020/21

Umran had a bad season this time

But for Tyagi sample size is way small

Kartik needs to grab his opportunities, not talking about winning games but at least not going for 18-20 run overs will work. Such big overs put team on the back foot immediately.

He had a problem bowling too wide since u19 days

Matter of time,he was awaiting  thrashing due to his line

His loosners are way too loose even for odi or tests standards

He has to understand conditions first and bowl the length accordingly.

I am happy with pace of Tyagi. He has good height.  May not be blessed with T20 bowling skills. But he has a lot of potential. Wankhede can be unforgiving. Look at Archer. He got carted around too.

He needs to bowl more and create muscle memory. These 3 games he played this season have been the worst he ever bowled in IPL.

He tried to bounce out in the first match. That pitch was not suitable for such length. Still he created a chance with that length but Philips shelled it. He has to develop a strong understanding of external factors that may influence his bowling. That is not just pitch, condition but also weaknesses of batsmen.

Both bowled poorly whatever they played. Look at Harshit. Look at Akash Madhwal. Good bowling will work Everywhere.

Harshit has got the new ball and has been told to bowl normal line and length. This allows a bowler to settle down both mentally as well as in terms of rhythm.

While Tyagi and Umran have always got the middle overs and told to bowl short to batters. There can be no other explanation as to why they have bowled short despite getting hit. Short bowling is for bowlers in rhythm and not for rookies trying to settle down.

Give Tyagi the new ball and tell him to bowl a normal line and length. I don't think he will be unusually expensive and he will settle down. Same for Umran.

Raw pace comes with a price. Edges fly, evade fielders easily. Umran is somewhat okay when he kept the ball within the stumps.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Bowling Review IPL 2023

A wooden spoon season ( their 2nd in last 3 seasons) and something is seriously wrong with SRH. They seriously need a full reboot. Entire batting flopped ( except Klassan) and bowling was non threatening and ineffective.

Bhuveshwnar Kumar Just the same old Bhuvi- slow, predictable and no wicket taking ability. Made good use of his international experience to avoid the scrutiny. But he should be accountable for not leading the franchise bowling despite having 10+ years of International experience. Like always, he is good in a supporting role and that's about it.
14 Matches, 16 Wkts, 8.33 Eco

T Natrajan A trundler that is almost a Bhuvi clone with additional yorker skills at death. Again no wicket taking skills and lately team has found out how to hit him even in death.
12 Matches, 10 Wkts, 9.11 Eco

Marco Jansen oscillated between a trundler and a 140k bowler but never threatened. Got eight games and was not regular in XI due to unpredictable performances.
8 Matches, 10 Wickets, 9.88 Eco

Umran Malik A major letdown after blockbuster last season. Umran was erratic, wayward and super expensive in all games. Couldn't find his rhythm in any game and was dropped midway in the tournament,.
8 Matches, 5 Wickets, 10.85 Eco

Kartik Tyagi Got 3 games with economy of 14+, can't survive IPL with such lack of control on bowling.
Fazal Farroqi Got only 4 games and he should have been persisted over Jansen.
Nitish Reddy Tried for 2 games but turned to be a horrible trundler.

Spin was never going to be focal point for SRH but luckily Markande had a decent season. Losing Washi Sundar midway also hurt SRH spin chances.
Markande (Not much was expected from him but he did provide control for SRH in middle overs )- 10 matches, 12 wickets
Washington Sundar ( A vital cog in SRH XI but an untimely injury cut short his campaign. ) - 7 matches, 3 wickets
Adil Rashid ( Surprisingly he got only 2 games and did decent enough but was benched throughout) 2 matches, 2 wickets

M Dagar & Abishek Sharma ( Token non threatening left arm spinners ) - 3 Wickets between them

Umran's problems are also due to the fact he has no idea of setting up the fields...  You cannot bowl full or yorker lengths if you have mid off & mid on up.

Captain & bowler both are to be blamed.

Personally feels he should keep mid off & mid on deep on the boundary & bowl full & fast like Pathirana...  With occasional change ups.

It should not be  that hard.  Use your pace wisely.

In that case, he is an out and out captain bowler then. Williamson handled him brilliantly in that regard.

Also, if its true Umran should concentrate solely on white ball cricket. Test cricket require high level of bowling intelligence which Umran clearly lacks.

A good captain and coach with role clarity & planning and Umran will deliver for his team. But that's about it.

Indeed he doesn't has the tools to succeed in red ball cricket as of now...  Unless he learns the art of reverse swing or bowling around channel with decent seam movement.

He can be gun in white ball cricket if he focuses on it & tries to be more smarter & aware.  His lines are not bad at all for a express pacer.

Field setting has to be done according to his strengths...  Short bowling isn't his strength clearly.

and lastly pitches have been super pathetic for fast bowling

That is the key right? Indian pitches will always favor spin ... in T20s or test cricket.  Even more so in T20s. From the top echelons of the BCCI to the Dravids to the groundsmen, they all love spin.

Its just the way India is.

Well that's the way it is. Its same for SENA countries spinners as well. They also don't get favorable conditions.

Also, the conditions and TM mindset may not be ideal for bowlers like Umran, Tyagi or Sen. But they have reached IPL level by sheer force of their talent.
They just need to realize that they are one good season away from regular India cap and take conditions out of equation.

India sure does love spinners but India also love Bumrah, Shami & Siraj as well.

the love does not extend to creating conditions(pitches) to be fair to their playing style though....... Its a case of loving pace bowlers but bestowing the goodies on the spinners. Some love.

General expectation of public is pacer who is accurate, can swing like crazy in England, bounce the hell out of batters in SA/Aus and then reverse in subcontinent while maintaining an excellent economy...and not to forget he must be an all format all phase bowler.

RCB Bowling Review IPL 2023

A top heavy batting, negligible middle order and sub par bowling prevented RCB from going to playoffs. Apart from Siraj, no other bowler impressed for RCB and reliance of trundlers like Harshal ,Vyshak and Parnell proved too costly at the end.

M Siraj The leader of the attack for RCB and singlehandly provided some depth to RCB bowling. It was a pleasure to see Siraj growth as a T20 Bowler- swing, seam, yorker, bouncer and slower ball, he showed complete range.
14 Matches, 19 Wkts, 7.50 Eco

Harshal A one trick pony trundler who become undroppable even after mediocre performance one after other. His over reliance on cutters, knuckle and slow ball was ruthlessly exposed and he let down RCB badly despite getting all 14 games.
14 Matches, 14 Wkts, 9.65 Eco

V Vyshak Another slow trundler and another disappointment of RCB. He had no business to play 7 games for RCB when similar trundler like Harshal was a permanent fixture in XI.
7 Matches, 9 Wickets, 10.54 Eco

Wayne Parnell filled in for 7 matches when Hazelwood, Topley and Willey were not available due to injuries. A decent campaign but only a supporting role at best.
7 Matches, 9 Wickets, 9.37 Eco

Hazelwood  played just 3 games before getting injured while Reece Topley couldn't survive injury after just 1 game.
David Willey bowled economically in 4 games but never got consistent run.
Akashdeep A rookie was tried for 2 games but discarded in favor of a trundler (Vyshek)

RCB had decent overseas spin option in  Hasranaga and Bracewell but both faltered in middle overs.
Hasranga  should have played all 14 games but indifferent form and lack of wickets led him to be dropped- 8 matches, 9 wickets
Bracewell too got only 5 games and did an economical job - 5 matches, 6 wickets
Karn Sharma An IPL veteran was recalled and played for 7 games. He was expensive in middle overs with two good game - 7 matches, 10 wickets

Rajasthan Royals Bowling Review IPL 2023

Its still a mystery as how RR missed the playoffs. They played a settled team, got in winning positions in most of their matches but still won just 7/14 games. Lack of consistent runs from butler and Samson was one of the reason but also a safety first approach in trusting defensive bowlers like Sandeep, Holder and Ashwin was another reason. There was no X-factor bowler in RR ( apart from boult with new ball) and teams figured out how to handle their spin threat.

Trent Boult A constant threat with new ball but still had an average season. Not enough wickets.
10 Matches, 13 Wkts, 8.21 Eco

Sandeep Sharma Yet another IPL veteran trundler who was recalled from hibernation and killed any chance of new promising bowler taking second fast bowler spot. As always he was not a threat to any team- just a defensive and calculative trundler who sticked to his strength but without any major impact on the game.
12 Matches, 10 Wkts, 8.60 Eco

Jason Holder A major flop for RR. He was expected to lead the middle orders but was ruthlessly exposed in the era of impact sub.
8 Matches, 4 Wickets, 9.96 Eco

Kuldeep Sen  was tried for 2 expensive games before getting discarded. But he was mostly injured right throughout the season.
Kuldip Yadav A rookie left arm trundler was also given 2 games but was destroyed and dropped.
K M Asif  was also tested for 4 games  but without any bite in his bowling . Discarded soon after.
N Saini was a forgotten figure in the entire season but got 2 games in the end and picked up few wickets in one of the game.

RR spin trioka was their x-factor in bowling - Chahal, Ashwin and Zampa are all proven internationals and they did control most of the games for RR in middle overs.
Chahal  has a blockbuster IPL season yet again.- 14 matches, 21 wickets
Ashwin did what he do best- Economical, defensive bowling - 13 matches, 14 wickets
Zampa Got only 6 games but still left an impact whenever he played - 6 matches, 8 wickets
