G_B_ Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 Annamalai has the option to be a union minister but chooses to build the party in the state. Why will he join either the DMK or the AIADMK unless they offer him a big cabinet berth like finance ministry etc? Why would the DMK give that to an outsider when the upper tiers of the party are dominated by sons and daughters of inter generational leaders? I can understand him joining the AIADMK somewhat given there it is still possible to rise up the ranks in that party. If the BJP can poll 8%+ in the upcoming assembly elections it will be a big gain for the party. Annamalai has done his job. Simple. Mostly it will be a BJP+AMMK+OPS alliance.

Does caste mater? He is a Christian, but from a certain caste. Because I hear caste is beyond religion in states like TN, Kerala/Andhra. If so, then he will get votes from some DMK caste blocs.

He has no qualms about having kungumam in his forehead and a cross in his neck. Vijay will not get caste votes in the sense that he will get votes from every caste. His popularity/fanbase is beyond caste. If you see his opening speech and banner, he has leaders from every caste in his banner. Just a couple of days back, he was giving his respects to Muthuramalinga Thevar. He is playing the angle of representation to all castes. Yes, Caste is beyond religion in TN. Christian Nadars are a notorious power group in South TN. They have no qualms of intermarrying with Hindu Nadars but have extreme reservations about marrying into Christian SC community. I have seen 'Gounder' surname in Christian Nadars No idea how it plays out. But he is certainly not pulling DMK voters 90 percent of the time. Not only that there's seperation in churches also. I've heard. Vicks57 1

That is an actual term in South TN. I know one guy "Christian Nadar" who specifically wants a Christian Nadar woman for wife. Usually parents have such requirements. But man is barely 28 yrs old raised in Chennai. Caste is indeed very prevalent in TN christians. There's no shying from that fact. coffee_rules 1

He was a bigot especially towards Brahmins. But his views on women's rights, remarriage was spot on. yea.. Bramhin percentage is only about 1.3% or so in TN. Atheism is still a big thing. I know a few brahmins who are atheists. Kamal despite a brahmin is an atheist. But overall i say people co-exist with absolutely no problem as i have given my family example. For instance Ilayaraja originally Daniel Rasayya. HE embraced HInduism deeply. His son yuvan shankar became a muslim. Vicks57 1

G_B_ Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 I read about Ambedkar and Periyar. I disagree with a lot Ambedkar said (also agree with a lot). But Ambedkar had a very normal personal life. Which I respect. Periyar had huge glaring issues which were red flags. Many similar red flags I found with Gandhi. ravishingravi 1
ravishingravi Posted November 1, 2024 Author Posted November 1, 2024 Periyar was a pervert joker who found was charismatic and hit the right issue. In a land where we are quick to euoligize human beings, TN is absolute peak of this tendency. It's absolute north korea like in that sense. Therefore, every other star feels he can give it a shot.

Caste related violence on SC/ST by OBCs are easily passed off as "crimes by Upper castes" by our media, implicating Brahmins. Even in movies, Brahmins are always shows as simpletons and religion-obsessed people who don't care about the society. Movies like Soorarai Potru (AC Gopinath) and even Amaran (Mukund Varadarajan), easily hide the caste identity of the protagonist because Kollywood wouldn't accept Brahmin guy in heroic positive way.
