Vijy Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 jaiswal is moving toward a boom-bust (mostly bust) batter in SENA. I know that he is young, sample size is small, etc, etc... But I hope he does not get complacent. Needs to kick on and improve. Don't want him to only be a HTB and/or FTB
wanted_desi Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 Shameful he is not part of ODI starting XI. I will literally drop anyone to accommodate him. Don't tell me Kohli is more impactful than him in ODIs in 2025. Manucrick and Chaos 2

Don't want him to only be a HTB and/or FTB I think that is being a bit too harsh on Yash - he has so far been a bust in S and pretty decent in A - i would give him a grade of A- to B+ in the last series in Australia : visiting opener batsman against one of the better Aussie attacks in history averging in mid 40s for a whole 5 test series with 1 ton and 2 halfers is not a joke, its definitely a rare accomplishment. Lets not set the bar too high for this guy, because i don't think people realize how truly great batters like Gavaskar,Sehwag,Hayden,Smith, etc. are because its truly no joke for an opener to average 50+ in their careers or even near it for 100+ matches and that is an unfair and frankly, unnecessary expectation to have, since as Aussies & Saffies of the 90s, west indies of the 70s-80s,etc. have shown, you dont need generational openers to make a good or great teams, you just need really really good ones like Greenidge, Haynes, Kirsten,Taylor, etc. and IMO Jaiswal is likely to reach this category if he doesnt become infected with Kohli-ism. Having said that, I would say that there is a weakness in Jaiswal's game, that is common to a lot of left handed batters - left arm pace. Its a common weakness to have and fortunately for him, its not a glaring one, like Kohli's 4th stump line, its a small one, like one early career Anwar and Lara had and one he should be able to rectify if he works at it. His ceiling is that of a gavaskar/Sehwag so there is cause for excitement ,perhaps over-excitement but lets not forget that the floor for him seems to be a Taylor/Anwar while he is more than likely to get to Greenidge/Haynes level.
