diga Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Knowledgeable folks ...how are RSU gains after vesting taxed? Do you pay it if it's less than 50k?

Yes ofcourse, it gets taxed at your regular income tax rate. You will get reduced shares that would factor tax holding. If your annual vest is 100 shares, you would only get 70 or so accounting for federal tax.

Yes you would be liable for long term capital gain tax after 2-3 years holding if your selling price is more than vesting date price. You can ofcourse offset this in various ways.

Pointers would help or even search terms All your taxable brokerage accounts — including your company's RSU one and your personal one — get combined on your tax return. Gains and losses from both flow into the same Schedule D, so your overall loss can cancel out the short-term gain from the RSU sale. So if you have a stock or stocks in your personal brokerage account (not employer provided for RSU comp ) that are in red, you can book your losses, by selling them before year end. They will offset capital gains tax you owe on your RSU cash out. I do this all the time. It’s call tax loss harvesting. And if the stocks that you deliberately booked losses on are promising - you can buy them back after 30 days to ensure that the tax liability does not return. diga 1

Not really, if I am to guess. May be US is asking something from India since Jan 2025. We don’t know what it is but definitely it is demanding something of very far reaching impact and GoI is unable to do so. Infact it may be that US was asking same during last years of Biden administration. So expect more pressure from US. This pressure is going to manifest in anti India media articles, protests separatism, terror incidents incident in India and pro Pakistan policies of US Edited June 2 by mishra

This pressure is going to manifest in anti India media articles, protests separatism, terror incidents incident in India and pro Pakistan policies of US I think it is obvious, US wants India to abandon what we call strategic independence in foreign policy & tow their line. Until Putin decided to invade Ukraine, it was something they could overlook, but once he did US wanted it to be their allies together against Russia. Since, India wouldn't give them that, US started to recalibrate its position. if India can't be trusted to tow their line now, a much stronger India propped up by US would just end up being another China. They decided a G2 is better than G3. AI seems to have come at the right time for them & wrong time for India. US Corprates dependence on Indian services would reduce, as does India's leverage.
