Only IPL stats matter, recent form doesn't. We may some seniors who are out of IPL,domestic directly getting selected in Asia and World cup

if you provide all stats for 2023, then IPL should also be there. otherwise, it becomes cherrypicking. Parag is clearly not for Tests, and even for T20s, it is dubious because he has done better in SMAT than IPL.

However, even in other threads, I have advocated his selection in ODIs.

He is only 21,he has lot of scope to improve.

Scope is there, but he needs to do a lot on the big stage.

He flopped big time in Asia Cup U23, there were few games where he got the chance to prove his worth.

At this moment, despite getting so much backing from regional, zonal and even the A list selectors, his performance is not up to mark at the big stage.

Otherwise, he is gonna end up like Sarfaraz, great in domestics, but flop on big stage.

He is a mental midget, keep him 500 km away from national squad.

We have plethora of mental midgets, something very wrong there

BCCI needs to look into this too, plenty of problems ahead

Usually ranji stats matter a lot of national selection....

I have been following Indian cricket for  ery long time and very rarely you see a player playing for India with domestic ODI Statistics...

Only time...this was disregarded was in ganguly era...

Anyways...I totally support that ranji stats should also be considered for odi selection

Assam success this season could be largely attributed to Riyan Parag

This Vijay Hazare season has seen Parag ending as the fifth-highest run-getter across sides, with 552 runs at an average of 69 with three tons and one fifty in 8 games. He is also Assam’s leading run-getter this Vijay Hazare season.

Parag’s performance with the bat has been one of the reasons behind Assam’s success this season. His scores this season read 117, 14, 32, 128, 17, 55*, 0, 174, 15. He has also taken 10 wickets this season.

Parag’s three tons and a fifty against Vidarbha came in different circumstances, where he exhibited great cricketing temperament, sense and skills to score runs when the chips were down. At times, he had to grind for runs to take the team to a safe total. He also showed that he can hit top gear if needed or the team demands of him to score briskly as evidenced by his knock of 174 against J&K.

Parag and Assam’s performances in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022-23 bode well for both him and his team.

And Parag has proved that he is not just a one-match or few-cameos wonder in IPL. He has the game to play long innings or quick counter-attacking innings for the benefit of the team.

For his all-round performance of 354 runs and 11 wickets in 5 matches, Riyan Parag was rightfully adjudged the Player of the Tournament. The 21-year-old missed the opening game due to his commitments for India A at the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup but came in all guns blazing from the second match onwards. His match-winning hundreds against North Zone (131) and West Zone (102*) and stunning four-wicket hauls against North East Zone and North Zone were all instrumental in his team making it to the final.

The fact that all his big knocks came in different scenarios, but batting at the same position (No.6) speaks volumes of his game awareness and the ability to adapt. Against North Zone, his typical T20-style century ensured the team got to a 300-plus total. The same match also saw him weaving magic with his off-spin, his 4 wickets helping East Zone seal an 88-run win. Riyan then went on to score a 68-ball 102* against West Zone, this time upping the ante of his shot-making even further. Perhaps the most crucial knock came in the final, a swashbuckling 95 under pressure with higher stakes and a potential title win on the line.

I would rate his perfomance in Deodhar trophy as it was zonal tournament. All the top players from that states got represented in.one zone

He performed well against West Zone consisting of players from Mumbai,Maharastra,,Gujrat, also against South Zone consisting of Karnataka, Tamil Naidu etc.

I would rate his perfomance more as he represent Assam which is not a dominant team in East zone

This looks like a good lower order prospect who can bowl, similar to Raina. We have too few of those currently with most of the batsmen coming through being openers who have to be shunted around in the lineup.
