Bharat and India are the two "official" names of the country. It is more about giving more preference to one name over the other.

That is all correct.

Why are they making a big deal now all of a sudden.

I am not following the topic in detail but maybe the "issue" was created by those who were surprised at the use of Bharat on the G20 invite as if Bharat is not an official name:

The use of the President of Bharat is totally fine.

The level of intellect if you can call it, of Devdutt is so pedestrian. Stupid one keeps repeating Brahminical  like lemurian crypto. They are devoid of any argument. Vedas was supposedly written or dictated by Vyas muni, is not even a Brahmin. Jains and Buddhists were differences in interpretations of philosophy of Vedanta (Upanishad) were debated and argued under the umbrella of sanatan dharma. He’s trained under western indology (Wendy Doinger etc) which says Jains and Buddhists were against Vedas and are good, and Vedas are bad. Idiots still believes in aryans like a Christian missionary. Bombay comes from mispronunciation of Mumbai by goras, doesn’t make Bombay any more Indian than Mumbai. Greeks and Persians mispronounced Sindhu as Hindu/Indu/India doesn’t make India as indigenous as Bharat itself.

Why is it being pushed now points to the ulterior motives of a party that is about to lose.

The timing is indeed dubious & looks like a poll stunt. This will backfire on them like 2004 if they're not gonna reverse course big time!

Do we really want to hear the rest of the world call us something they can’t pronounce?

Pre-2014, Modi can't speak English well, was seen as one valid reason to not vote him.

This inferiority complex is pathetic. And India as a name is one representation of ourselves from the western lens. We need our own prospective, our own independent thinking from the dharmic eyes. Analyze both the world, and ourselves , free of the inferiority complex and western bias.
