Should we bring back Ashwin?

All this last minute panic rehearsal could have been avoided if the brainless idiots at the helm of our TM cared enough to groom a spin bowling batting all-rounder in all those useless bilaterals..The closest they came was picking that useless Shahbaz Ahmed who is pathetic in both the departments..

Tilak Varma , Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Nishant Sindhu...all were there to be picked.

Riyan is not a T20 player in true sense. Especially last 3 or 4 over players. He takes time and accelerates in domestic list A.  But if he had done well in the iPL his entry into the side would have become easier.

I mean...after watching yesterday's match...i felt, Its very important to bring back Ashwin...and play him based on the conditions..

If its a turning track...he is mandatory...

Yesterday...except kuldeep...no one was looking like taking wickets...

Just a pure luck that ... De-silva tried to loft the ball and perished.. Otherwise..it would have been a lost game for us...

Ashwin would have eaten them alive in the yesterday's match (with the kind if turn it offered)

Most of the ICFers might hate me for this...but i am feeling that he is mandatory in 15 member squad and use him on need basis (on turning pitches)

All said and done I am all for backing an offie. Be it is Ashwin or Sundar. But If the bowler is part time they better make sure he is a bloody good serviceable batsman.

These are part time batsmen though and not wicket taking bowlers unless its a turner.

It is a compromise. Obviously Ashwin or Sundar are 9 to 10 over bowlers on turning wicket their workload can be increased while reducing workload of pandya. But on seaming wicket pandya can share the workload more. That is not something we can do with part timer.

Yes but we lose batting ability with this. Axar bats best among these spinners but bowls worst. But on a turner he an get away too.

If they actually prove that they can bat and bowl part time spin, then Jadeja's place will be questioned. This team seems built on the idea that Rohit opening , Kohli at 3 and Jadeja at 7 are guarantees no matter what and the rest of the lineup and combinations have to based on that .

Sundar Anyday over Ashwin in Odis, how is this even a topic of conversation?

Sundar is a way better batsman, Ashwin’s bowling is better but still he is nowhere close to being a quality odi bowler also his batting in odi sucks

Both are poor batsman in this format. Ashwin's bowling is certainly better, especially on turners.

Are you not overrating Sundar's batting ability. His highest recent LIST A score is 43 @70 sr .Rest of them were all in single digit scores.

It is not like he was lighting up FC either?

So he will magically transform himself when India is under pressure that too in a world cup and scores needed runs from number 7.

If we go on recent form, then many of our players didn't deserve to be in XV. But we played them based on trust.

At this moment, our entire tail from 7-11 is scoring in single digits. I dont expect Sundar to smash 50(35) deliveries, but even a 28(27) I will take it happily, considering how well Jadeja is batting.

Ashwin is good but in ODI's he is an Agarkar level batter who generally will give you 17(16) type scores.

Sundar's FC avg is 22 at 80 SR. That gives around 25(30) type scores while Ash will give 20(25). Not much difference if Ash can give an extra wicket.

In internationals it's 29 vs 16.

FC is long format, where Ashwin is a superior package, but in white ball, I think Ashwin falls a bit behind.

To me 17(16) trumphs over 28(27) as Ashwin's bowling might be lot better on spinning wicket.

Going by form other than jadeja, everyone who are going to play in playing eleven have scored runs or taken wickets.

So who are we talking about not scoring runs or taken wicket by recent form? other than SKY.

The reason I liked Tilak over all these players is he might get you 50(30) from batting at number 7 and Jadeja can bat at number 8 then.

He might give you 5 overs for 25 to 30 runs.

Bringing back Ashwin to the Indian cricket team can be a strategic decision, depending on the team's current needs, conditions, and the format of the game. Ashwin has a proven track record and a wealth of experience, which could be valuable in certain situations. Ultimately, it's a decision for the selectors and team management to make, taking into account the team's goals and requirements.

Tilak is untested as a part timer. He didn't even bowl in IPL.  We have no evidence he can  do what Yuvi or even Raina did. He has played 26 matched bowled 40 overs. That is just over 1 over per innings. How can you trust him with5 overs. Atleast Parag is a genuine off spinner.
