Jay Shah says that if he can keep in the IPL, he can play the T20WC.

 

That is a bad move, unless he totally dominates the IPL (MVP level 160+ SR, 30+ avg plus decent keeping).

 

For all his power-hitting prowess, Pant has shown himself to be a very good ODI player and a test ATG, but not a consistently good T20 bat (126 SR after 60+ T20Is). He needs to be saved for the longer formats, esp tests, and his T20 heroics can just be in the IPL.

yes, should play just Tests and ODIs, and that too, as a specialist bat in Tests. we have Jurel who can bat at no. 6 or no. 7 without issues.

KL is dropped from T20I squads, Kishan went out of favour with management and Sanju is always ignored anyway. So if Pant can keep, they'll definitely pick him unless they want to try someone younger

Jay Shah is an administrator and knows next to nothing about cricket. Hopefully this is just random quotes and the actual team selection will be based on the objective assessment of fitness, form and team requirements.

Pant is only 26 so I don't think  he needs to worry about younger players just yet.

First off he is poor T20 player,not sure why Jay shah thinks he will be a fit for the WC,maybe he has not seen him play T20.Pant's real value is Test cricket and he no offense to Jurel but he walks in to the side..

As one of Pant's biggest fans, I must disagree that he just walks into the test side at this time. He is no doubt an ATG test player already, but he must prove himself with some red ball cricket first (maybe start with Irani or Duleep trophy whenever that is).

In overseas conditions, Rahul can keep also and Pant play as specialist batsman for a short period till Pant finds his keeping mojo back. This would not weaken our batting also as Rahul has good record overseas since his return in 2021.

Past reputation should not be a criteria. If Pant does well in IPL, he should be IN.    Otherwise, we hv enough decent young WKs for LOIs.  (Not incl. KL of course).
