Needs to tweak his batting position a bit, middle order spot is up for grab. His game is built to maximize Powerplay overs and can hit boundaries. He and Jaiswal are the closest we've openers similar to Sehwag. Ideally he would've been our opener along with Jaiswal post Rohit with Gill or Sai slotting in at 3. He doesn't have the game for middle overs. He's not someone who keeps on rotating the strike or has the power game to clear boundaries. We've likes of Rinku and Parag for that role along with Pandya and Nitish. It all depends on how Shaw responds to this adversity. He'll get a chance again as he's too talented not to get one. Maybe an injury to a player or someone is woefully out of form and a team comes calling. He should focus on getting ready and cash in on that opportunity. Or he can go the Kambli way blaming all and sundry for his downfall.

Project Patidar - failed Project Padikkal - failing Project Shaw? @maniac @vvvslaxman @nevada @Ultimate_Game I still have hope for Shaw. Middle aged Pujara could make a comeback piling on the runs in England, why can't Shaw? I don't think he is international level, but can be an impact player in the IPL. Unlike fattu players KL, Ruturaj etc, he plays attacking, entertaining style like Sehwag. Regarding Patidar - he got his chances on the back of consistent heavy scoring in domestic cricket. He failed, and miserably so, and it's time to move on from him. He did well again in the IPL after his miserable test performance. Maybe he is also good for IPL only. Padikkal never looked convincing for me even in the IPL. He has a weak game lacking power and it shows in his strike rate.
rollingstoned Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 There was a time when he was dropped from the team after the 36 AO game and was scoring runs for fun in domestic yet still not getting picked. He even made some passive aggressive SM posts about it. He has lost motivation since then as many more batsmen have now entered the team and made his path more difficult. He is still quite young and is very gifted so hope he turns It around. Shastri said if he had his wta eh would never have allowed Kambli to go off the rails, well he has his chance with Shaw if he wants it now. tweaker, express bowling and Lord 3

He has to take responsibility for his carerr going off the rails. There are many young, hungry cricketers in India and he either has to compete with their fitness and intensity or fade away like he is. jf1gp_1 1

Yea that is all correct but I'm just trying to see it from his pov, especially a guy whom everyone has always told is special, lit up the u19 wc and is having to see his batch mates and younger players leave him behind. He is certainly down but upto him if that means he is also out, even Greg Chappell has written to him in support & there will be no shortage of supporters from Mumbai lobby to help him out.

Everyone needs support in his down time, even 40 year olds. He needs some support to get back on track. Reportedly an alcoholic, thats tough addiction to get over.

Every young person ultimately comes to the realisation that the world does not owe anyone a comfortable life..you have to take responsibility for fighting your own battles whatever your profession. Hopefully his family and close friends can support him rather than sponge off him as seems to be common for IPL stars.

Sean Bradley Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Talent is nothing without discipline. Kambli & Shaw are perfect examples for Indian Cricket lovers.

NameGoesHere Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Forget cricket, he’s done as a cricketer. As an ICT fan I’m not wasting my time on him. I’m concerned for him as a fellow human being. He is in a downward spiral that is so predictable - addiction, loss of form, parasitical advisors, resentment, declining physical and mental health. I hope he gets help, hope he has saved his money, can only wish him the best and hope he doesn’t end as a Kambli. BlueBee, raki05, nevada and 1 other 2 2

NFL is one of the most physically harsh sports out there. When NFL players get injured, they don't come back 30 pounds heavier. Athletes at the top levels know how to maintain their bodies no matter what. There are people who return from cracked shins in NBA and still stay just as fit if not better. Same can be seen in boxing, wrestling, rugby, football/soccer, NHL, Baseball and others. These are your average Couchtards who inadvertently display how little they understand of sports, fitness and nutrition.

One hoped he would mature and take it easy with the goose that lays the golden eggs for him. But so far he hasn't. Many here on ICF who weren't aware of his erratic ways got their hopes up a few years ago when Shaw was selected for the IPL, only for him to crush them all to a fine powder. IIRC I probably got called out as a youngster hater when I expressed my apprehension about Shaw. Unfortunately for them he proved me right. For his sake, I hope he wakes up.
Vijy Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Have not read all of this thread, but comparisons to Kambli are ludicrous. Kambli played over 100 int'l matches for India, had a 54 avg in Tests (of course, mostly at home), and a 60+ FC batting avg (excluding tests). Shaw has done <10% of this overall
