I could see him potentially rested for 4th Test, but as you said, the 10 day gap is plenty.

 

Not having Shami has hurt us on the field in terms of taking wickets as the 2nd pacer and off the field in terms of being able to rest players.

 

IIRC Bumrah missed a test series here and there and Shami was more than plenty as a replacement, mind you in India when we blew up the pitches and had Jaddu, Ash and Axar doing the majority of bowling helps a lot.
