Elephant kohli in the room

Looking at Paddikal and some of the upcoming Tailunt Kohli still looks way above quality. However yes you need to move on and give the next guy a chance after a certain point of time. Give him all 5 tests and then Tata bye bye. He played 1 knock in WT20 and made it count and retired. Hopefully will call it a day with a 100. I won’t let recency bias cloud my judgement, great player but this is it either ways on a high note or low note.

Padikkal is a fine batsman . Survived 23 new balls in extreme swing against best pace bowling . Kohli will not survive 3-5 balls .

Lots of good talent around . Our t20 team is full of players like Samson , Verma etc or rinku who have good fc averages and can easily step into test team . Sarfaraz is sitting out and he should be playing in lieu of kohli .

Our media is useless . Not one player is asking for kohli to be dropped .

I have a gut feeling that kohli will be dropped in test no 3 after he fails in pink ball test

I would bring in someone like Rinku in the Tests. He has the the record/stats (avg of 55 in FC) and has the temperament too. Not your usual T20 slogger like SKY and knows how to build an innings and that shows in his stellar FC and List A record as well. Needs to be backed across formats just like Jaiswal.

I don't see guys with rock solid defense like Pant is. Those are the guys who are likely to do well in Tests. Jaiswal has great defense. His only issue was cross format contamination.  Otherwise he meets the ball right under his eyes. Plays very close to his body.  If he avoids these ODI/T20 shots he can become an Indian great. I don't want another SHikar Dhawan situation. Similarly Sai Sudarshan plays multi formats. There is a risk of cross contamination. batsmen have to find a way to make the adjustment

I've watched Rinku bat and he has all the traits to be a successful Test batsman. He's much more solid than Shikhar and knows how to bide his time. Watch him bat in longer formats in domestic cricket and you'll see. Sai is the other batter I'm big on for Tests and ODIs.

Some of the leaves by Jaiswal against Hazlewood would not have happened with other batsmen. They were tight and exceptional leaves.  These pokers get exposed only against high quality bowling.  Abhinav Mukund was exposed like that in England. So we have to send these guys on A tour and see how they respond.

Agree that we need to identify these players and send them to A tours. I would add Rinku to the list along with Sai, Easwaran, Padikkal etc.

England is tougher in that regard, specially against Anderson.

Rinku is not a poker. Pretty decent technique

As per his fans, Kohli is the one who has been holding the team together and it's others, especially our bowlers who don't "step up" :giggle:

Yea.. after the dropped catch he felt so guilty that he was trying to force Bumrah to take every review. Bumrah was not buying any of his BS thankfully.

He's such a liability that we need to hide him in the batting order and also on the field. He shouldn't stand in the slip cordon. Move him to Square Leg or Mid Off so he can't drop sitters and make the team's life even more difficult.

There's a stat which showed that Kohli has dropped the most number of catches over the last 5 years or so - it was around 40. The fielder closest to him had dropped less than 50% of the chances he had. It's a joke at this point when commies, especially Gavaskar says "he's a pretty good/safe catcher". No, he's not and has never been.

Bumrah has been quite smart as a captain

Love him as a captain but unfortunately can't have him as a permanent captain as you don't want him to play every match. Maybe they can nominate him and someone like Gill or Pant as joint captain (or VC) with the understanding that Bumrah is the automatic captain whenever he plays.

Bumrah deserves it as he has been our MVP for the last decade and much more level headed than some of our captains.
