The Realist Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 Money talks so unlikely the tournament will reduce in length or size. One thing they could do is award 3 points for a win like in football. 2 points is not enough and keeps too many mediocre teams in the mix. I would be tempted to have 2 divisions with promotion and relegation.
express bowling Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 (edited) Most of my friends and family, all over India and outside India too, rarely watch the IPL. Maybe just the knockout matches at the end. And one or two matches held in their cities. Edited May 15, 2024 by express bowling Vicks57, Mosher and Suhaan 3
Sgattick10 Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 I got exhausted watching these many matches. Lost interest last week itself. Gollum, Austin 3:!6 and express bowling 1 2
Number Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Govt is generating a lot of money from these online gaming platforms. Almost every game they earn ~500 crore INR through taxes. So I don't think number of matches are going down anytime soon.
goose Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 a bunch of teams mid table, mostly winning as many games as they have lost, slugging it out to show who's boss.

This tournament is just too long and after a certain point it gets boring. I am sure even players feel the same way but are reluctant to speak due to the money. Do you guys want to see rather a smaller & more competitive IPL? wayyy too long. But fun to just roast n troll some die hards fans of bottom feeders :) Austin 3:!6 1

How do they sustain the viewer interest for so long. It's quite boring to follow the IPL even on Cricbuzz now. Football has a wider audience than IPL and they play like 10 games on weekends.
Austin 3:!6 Posted May 14, 2024 Author Posted May 14, 2024 IPL = 3 months Election = 1.5 months ICC trophy drought = 10 years Nothing small in our country Chaos, Sgattick10, Vijy and 3 others 6

goose Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 when i watch IPL all i see is players shaking hands with the opposition side on how much money they all made. good job Lord 1

Texan Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 I don't think IPL is long. It cannot be compared to other cricket World tournaments like World Cups. The big difference is that IPL is a "league". By league stanadards in other sports, it's actually quite short. But I wouldn't like IPL to run as long as other sport leagues. It is about enough matches to give all teams a fair chance at winning. I also like the KO format better where the top 2 teams still have a chance even if they lose a KO game. MumInd 1
Nikhil_cric Posted May 16, 2024 Posted May 16, 2024 It's a long, awful tournament with terrible pitches and not enough elite talent to sustain 10 teams. Other than drain the players by adding on to an already taxing domestic schedule, it's doing nothing currently. But that's only for cricket purists, unfortunately.

It is throwing up young Indian talent that can serve us in future. Not IPL's fault if selectors don't pick them.

Throwing up excessive talent is probably counterproductive. You cannot invest in players for the long term and it results in chopping and changing every now and then. It's why our T20 squad is a mess every single time.
Chaos Posted May 16, 2024 Posted May 16, 2024 Lost interest cuz they wc squad before ipl was done n seeing players who picked r playing like shiiiit, kills any interest. But watching abhi is still great

So you want our young batters to play against trundlers in SMA and then get into IPL? BCCI only conducts IPL to earn money and to unearth talents. 4 foreign player rule is perfect. Even football leagues like EPL have roster spots reserved for English players.
