Combination of factors actually Insane population density Insane delays in construction projects due to legal wrangles Corruption right from neta to babu to average contractor. The last factor is common across the country. And the roots lie with the nature of our aam aadmi.

Whether it is concrete or asphalt- the quality due to lack of upkeep and massive corruption within BMC is 3rd world for most of Mumbai. 2 kms leading upto Mumbai airport is international class. Just go 2 kms away from the Mumbai airport and you start seeing 3rd world roads and it is true for most parts of Mumbai except small pockets.

The biggest change has been the addition of new fast flyover roads and swanky malls. However, overall it's just like Plato's Allegory Of The Cave. The vast majority of the people are simply too used to the chaos, dirt and filth and have no desire to change anything. They know no better. I see nice new swanky buildings with a rubbish tip 10 metres away. Waste management should be the number one priority in India followed by building maintenance. Most homes have crumbling plaster and moulded paint. Last time I avoided much of this by visiting mostly Himachal and Goa but this time I've seen Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab. I honestly think a lot of towns need to be levelled and built from scratch. How can you have an eatery right next to a tyre shop? Cleaning up the filth and improving the looks of homes is paramount to India getting respect throughout the world. Edited December 31, 2025 by Ranvir Lord 1
