Two things. This is a third world country with few people having first world expectation. It will take a generation to push things like planning and safety at every stage of the process. If there is an ISRO, there will also be this. If there is unprecedented Solar expansion, there will also be this. If there is UPI, there will be this. This contraction and corruption, we have to live with. Not going to go on wrist cutting mode. But its good that there is growing noise and expectations.

Thats what it means to move from developing to advanced developed economy. Building and bridges are crashing in China till date. Persistent noise and not settling for mediocre will take time.

One wonders why are people being so stupid buying a 1cr for a box in the sky in the country which is below average in public services and cleanliness and reeling with corruption everywhere.

I do not think the expectations are first world at all. Their expectations are cleaner streets and a reasonably cleaner food.

I think their grievances are legitimate.

Again, it is not guaranteed that every country will reach the first world. Many of the have their unique socio economic challenges and some might forever be trapped in third world.

I feel india with it's ultra diverse bickering populace more than compensates for the advantages it has.

These westerners visiting the slums are even more evil. They shoot videos of people living in abject poverty in these places, post videos on YouTube and other social media platforms and then profit from it.

The less said about the indian people profiting from depicting their OWN poverty, the better it is. They are the true untouchables.

You are, rarely I will add, wrong. This is one of the times.

First world expectations is not what people want.

A city like Ho Chi Minh, with 15million people and a lower per capita earning than a Mumbai or Delhi is far cleaner, with better roads, better garbage disposal and infinitely better air. This is not an advanced country. It is a third world country that was ruined by war just 40-50 years ago.

Asking for breathable air, clean water, unadulterated food and medicine is not wrist slitting.

Amidst all the obvious bad stuff about horrible air, horrible civic sense...want to share good news that delhi will soon be garbage mountain free...okhla i guess, by July 2026, Bhalaswa by December 2026 and Ghazipur by next year year end (2027 end).

There is Great tangible difference already. This was considered next to impossible. Thanks to Rakha govt. And even to the efforts of kejriwal govt and to the courts as well for making it happen...

Cleaner yamuna, river front, cruise on Yamuna. Good progress!!

These are smaller steps imho the big ticket items are

1. Clean delhi air and entire country air.

2. Clean the streets, public places.

If this is done, no need to leave India (I am not leaving anyways) imho because other grievances are relatively small, clean air is non-negotiable!
