Lakshmi kasina sara... If you know what I mean @coffee_rules  / @BacktoCricaddict

It took me a minute to figure what you were referring to.  Made me watch that despot Putin for a whole 97 seconds.

Given Russia's struggles, it wouldn't surprise me if Modi bought this saraa in Jamnagar and took it with him for the ceremony.

I think the Indian govt is smart and pragmatic, but am always afraid this relationship with Putappa will come back to bite the Indian economy.

India has always been dependent on Russia strategically. They saved our asses in 1971 when USA was ready to attack India. They will be a deterrent for any hara-kiri from the west. With Lillie Putin or not

“Dodda” Lakshmi Kaasina sara!! It must have been  a relic from the Czar era. Otherwise, who in the right mind will design such an ornament. They revived the award a few decades back

The world has changed a lot since the Henry Kissinger era. Liberalisation of India's economy was fueled by market economics of the West (mainly USA), not Soviet/Russian principles or collaborations. Trade with the US is 160 bn annually, with Russia is <60 bn. When there was grain shortage post-independence, it wasn't the Soviets who helped India become a surplus grain producer (I don't recall Dr. MSS going to Vladivostok for collaboration).

I get the dependence on them for energy, fertilizer etc., but it is time to keep smiling at them while simultaneously weaning away from them and becoming energy independent (nuclear) and fertilizer-sufficient (invest in ag tech including biotech and precision ag to minimize fertilizer use).

BTW, do they depend on India for anything? Without any leverage, it becomes a 1-way relationship and that is dangerous, esp with someone like Putappa at the helm.

@Lord international level embarassment our own Biden:facepalm:

Didn’t know many in India get embarrassed so easily!

Not a big deal, imo. People realize that there can be a slip of tongue. The old man is well loved and respected. The crowd cheered as soon as he spoke “Austria”!

I am not into political discussions now. Just found this too trival to be made into an issue by that tweet.

Remember the boy cried wolf story. If such things are portrayed as issues, people will lose interest if a real issue pops up :dontknow:

Old he is for sure, but hardly anybody notices his gaffes and even among them only Congis are the one getting offended for India! They were laughing it off when old retard Biden was a condescending putz  teaching Modi how to make a toast. BFD

He is still the #1 in Approval ratings of world leaders

This is global approval, don’t think he or his team can spin it. Agree, he has to stop PR otherwise and focus on performance. No need for PR in the third term. But IT cell is still going full steam with his reels. Opposition is also focusing only on Modi (Luke the gaffes) and not on real issues.
