Gollum
I have fallen out of love with tennis so much in last couple of years. 10 years ago I would watch Wimbledon almost whole day, even with lower seeds playing. No passion left, if Nole has a deep run and runs into Alcaraz or Sinner, I may watch sparingly. Otherwise the tennis fan inside me is dead Vicks57 and Number 1

I would not miss a single GS/ATP masters match starting from QF to F. I could name like 40 players from ATP tour back then and I was familiar with all their games as well Andy Murray was just starting to stamp his authority in 2016 and in 2017 he had that big injury. Novak and Nadal started farming. Novak more so than Nadal to be honest. Novak Djokovic is the biggest Bane of tennis since 2019. He was the biggest boon to tennis from 2011 to 2016. Alcaraz vs Djokovic Wimbledon 2023 simply revived my tennis love. Although I watched Alcaraz beat djoker in ATP, beating him in slams is special. Tennis is a dying sport. No one has time to watch 3-4 hrs for a single *ing match between two individuals

No one has time to watch 3-4 hrs for a single *ing match between two individuals Tennis made a mistake by slowing down the surface/making the balls bigger. Back in the 90s, tennis was boring, because it was pretty much all 'ace, first serve->return->winner, ace, double fault, second serve-->return->whack->return->winner' type points and nobody was that interested in which one of Goran or Pete, becker or Stich would serve more aces or which one of Stefan, Henman or Rafter would miss a volley first. Tennis was most watchable when either Agassi running red hot was going up against one of these servebots or it was Agassi vs fellow baseliner Kafelnikov, Courier, Korda types. So they tried to rectify it with slowing down the courts in the early 2000s. Then they also made the ball slightly bigger and fluffier to reduce its airspeed. Result : 4.5-5 hour Bo5 slugfests with 50% of the points being like pong from nintendo, with 30 shot rallies each. THAT is also boring. The only reason tennis is watchable these days is due to Alcaraz and only because he is a great dropper and doesnt just bash the fluff off the ball every single point like a Zverev,Sinner, Medvedev and 30 other players. They now have the reverse problem, where people dont have enough time or interest to see the matches. IMO, tennis should either make the courts faster or the balls back to the original ones. Only then will you have the aggressive baseline game of the late 90s-early 2000s and not a boring slugfest of who is fitter. nevada and Vicks57 1

I agree with you on Alcaraz being a deceptive dropper and that's what makes him standout. I do not want to go back to watching Raonic serve 60 aces in a GS match

Sampras at Wimbledon was like Nadal at RG, but the other three slams were wide open. Racquet string technology has turned tennis very one sided, making it into a battle of stamina favoring players with more accumulated muscle memory. It's boring to see the oldies beat players 10+ years younger than them. Vicks57

Gollum
Haven't watched a second of this Wimbledon, may be different if any 2 of Sinner, Alcaraz, Nole face each other towards the end. Saw the controversy about boos on reddit and checked some videos. Horrible, horrible crowd, booing and disrespecting an all time great despite no provocation. Sadly, Nole has had to endure this thuggish behavior for 20 years, and then like snakes trying to cover it up or brush it aside. Glad Nole called them out publicly. These same Brits look down upon South Asians, Chinese, South Americans, Arabs, African crowds calling them all sorts of names. When truth is these British crowds are way worse, racist assholes. WASPS and Anglicans are the worst racists, with superiority complex.....they did the same to Ivan Lendl in the 80s, all driven by jealousy. An all time great in the finishing stage of his illustrious career, a nice bloke (though deliberately misunderstood), just enjoy his game, may not even play next year!!!! Saw some SM comments and Westerners are justifying the vitriol saying they did this because he is unvaccinated (still going on with this BS in 2024 @Real McCoy), or his political beliefs, or how he isn't a nice person like Roger/Rafa. Makes no sense. Edited July 9 by Gollum Real McCoy
Gollum
Recently Kohli in an interview said England had the worst crowds who would always boo opponents, make condescending remarks...but they have this nice image. He said Aussies enjoy bantering more and they also appreciate good cricket. Power of propaganda where English are always the good guys. Fact is they are always uncivilized, even in Euros their fans have the worst behavior, in Olympics also they will find excuses to riot on the streets of Paris. Never seen a more racist bunch against India than the Balkans, not even the middle eastern subs. The things they say against India and South Asians in general will make even a grown man cry. coffee_rules

May be racists there, I see most such comments from Albanians, Kosovans, Bosnians though. Anyway Nole is not a racist, he gets along well with Indians and other Asians on tour. His practice partners in last USO, this AO were Indians. We are anyway discussing English crowd. Other crowds own up to their bad behavior. English do all sorts of nonsense and behave like sanctimonious priests. Tillu

Don't know about the general English crowd but English crowd on Reddit was better and has always nice things to say about Indian immigrants and our food. Many times better than the Thais, Filipinos, Malays, Singaporeans, Canadians and Australians. coffee_rules and Gollum

coffee_rules
They have to chuck out the booing crowd, esp in Tennis. It’s getting out of control. He is not their favorite, but is a class apart from their favorite. Just bottle up and appreciate the effort.
