We won inspite of Kohli

We are happy we won .

The dispute here is team selection and flawed strategies .

Kohli has not been a t20 wc star . His move to open in rcb was the most selfish thing in sport . Yash jaiswal would have won the cup for us too had he opened .

If u wanna win consistently , strategy and selections have to be like aussie . Hero worship needs to be stopped .

sharma realised what needs to be done in t20 . He played selfless in both odi and t20 wc . He is real hero . Kohli legacy is high avg , low strike rate , personal milestones .

sharma is high strike rate , team first .. the template is laid.

Sharma, sky, pant realised to score 9, 0,2.. so kohli played according to situation. kohli also got the good start, if not early wickets he would have scored 35-40(25 balls)

40 off 25 was more match winning than his score . Pandya didn’t get to bat .

Point is not what he did . Point is he was never supposed to be in the cup . He was a dead weight and played subpar all throughout . Stole a players spot .

It’s a horrible culture in this indian team.  His 5-6 years of captaincy gave us zero trophies cos of this singular focus on himself . Middle order was never allowed to develop . Top order piled on runs and middle order never developed . Batsmen never tried to bowl .hero worship was at its peak . Meaningless bilaterals were scored in aplenty .

Remember how Rahane won us the test series against Aussies ? Captain kohli had left after a heavy defeat of 36 not out .

He has been a disruptive force to indian cricket . He still wants to play test cricket where he is a walking wicket against spin and swing . In odi , he may still do ok but in 3 years , he shouldn’t be in wc team . But Indians will carry him just like this t20 and won’t learn

IMO the main reason is that despite clearly being the best team across formats over the last decade, we've achieved precious little. As an example over the last 3 ODI WCs, our record is 25-4! We've dropped only 4 games across 3 WCs - the same no. of games which average teams like our padosis lose almost every WC! No other team has a similar record or even comes close to it but yet we've 0 trophies!

The same scenario is extended to Tests with 2 WTC final appearances and 0 wins, and in T20s where barring a miracle by Bumrah and our pacers we would be with 0 trophies. Plus who can forget the CT in 2017 where we'd no business losing to a mediocre Pak team. After a while it does get tiresome. And quite a few of these losses are self-inflicted or our batsmen simply not showing up so you can't really expect people to be a bit more demanding. I would rather we drop a game or two in group stages but show up in knockouts which we haven't really done consistently. And when you see that even likes of SL, WI, Pak, NZ etc. have fluked an ICC win, it does get even more frustrating.

I think BCCI also needs to play its part a bit...

1. First, it should schedule WTC finals in Asia as well. When every final is going to be played in England in seam/swing friendly conditions, we'll always be underdogs against SENA countries no matter whether we've the best record. I get it that ICC probably generates more revenues if they hold the final in England but winning a tourney should be BCCI's priority and they should push for change in WTC final venue.

2. The scheduling of tourneys could be a bit better. So many times we've to play either WTC final or an ICC tourney (usually WT20) right after a grueling IPL season ends. The players are mentally & physically drained and we inevitably under-perform without proper preparation. BCCI needs to ensure there's a proper break between IPL and other tourneys so we give our best shot.

3. Schedule matches/games at venues and times where external factors such as toss or dew don't make a mockery of the game. As an example the WT20 held in Dubai was a "win the toss, win the match" venue where the toss was the most important factor and Aussies literally won the tourney on the back of winning 6 out of 7 tosses. Similarly holding the WC2023 final in Ahmedabad where chasing is always easier under lights. Given we're one of the best teams, it's in our best interest to play at venues where the conditions are equal throughout the day. Again up to BCCI to ensure scheduling and venue selection where we aren't at the mercy of a toss.

4. Team selection should be based on merit and I wish we move away from star culture and these whimsical selections for no reason. E.g. even in this WT20 we carried so many passengers and misfits such as Chahal (and 4 spinners), Jadeja, Dube etc. Or selection of SKY in ODIs and Tests despite his poor domestic record in those formats and players like Sarfaraz ignored despite consistent performances in domestic cricket. Some of them shouldn't have been there and these non-merit selections hamper us big time. Likes of Chahal, KL Rahul, Jadeja, Avesh Khan should not be selected but somehow they always make it :dontknow:
