1. Rohit

2. Jaiswal .. LHB

3. Gill

4. Kohli

5. Pant .. LHB

6. Jurel / Rahul

7. Jadeja .. LHB

8. Harshit

9. Akashdeep  /  Kuldeep ( based on pitch )

10. Bumrah

11. Shami

12. Rahul / Jurel

13. Sarfraz

14. Ashwin

15. Kuldeep / Akashdeep

16. Siraj

.... Both Harshit and Akashdeep are tall, hit the deck, low FC average pacers, ideal for Australia.  And both have batting ability. Hence both should play.

....  This team has alternating RHB and LHB

KL Rahul is the best SENA batsman for India in last 4 years. Has scored a century in 2 Saf tours and 1 in England tour. His back foot play is exemplary.he has to play at no 5.  Will be unfair to put sarfraz or jurel facing second new ball in MCG or Brisbane with starc cummins fired up.

Edged and gone Sarfraz..Good catch by Steve Smith and Cummins is delighted.. Kerry O Keefe..

Gujara role of blocking the ball has to be handled by someone. HE is not a match winner on his own. But he can protect his wicket for long periods while tiring the bowlers out.  Somebody has to  play that role.

Blocking and taking blows.

I think KL is the only one in this lineup who is capable of that, according to me KL should be picked ahead of Khan in the playing eleven considering he has the game for SENA conditions and scored a century in last SA tour.

Worried about Ashwin and Jaddu's bowling. Both are quite old, jaded, declining forces, no zip, Aussies aren't like those Bazball retards.

The balance they can offer can be series winning but at this stage of their careers, highly doubtful. Kuldeep must get a look in, most in form Indian spinner atm and peak age.

Also injuries an unknown factor. Last time we had to rely on net bowlers after couple of tests. This time wrap Bumrah, Shami, Jadeja in cotton wool before the series.

Yes, I am worried about Ashwin too, he did well vs Eng but still didn't look at his best, I hope Kuldeep gets a chance in SCG and MCG (can work at adelaide too).
Australian team is also seeing a transition phase, Warner just retired and Smith seems unfit for opening, Labuschagne isnt  someone who can lead from the front like Smith did, Head is impactful but still not consistent enough, if we can find a way around Head, we can win handsomely here.

According to me, our two main concerns will be :
Head
Khawaja

I think India will definitely work a lot on travis HEAD this time, he isnt as good a test player as he is in lois.

Khawaja has shown in his career that he his very inconsistent against good bowling attacks, and we have an excellent one here.

People have choosen 94% of the right squad here. Just one caveat is KL Rahul ?

What the hell he is doing here.

No matter how much we try to defend him, he is not cut out. He can neither play Pujara's role, nor will he be able to handle even a bit of sledging.

He is 32 years old, no time left to waste on him. Jurel if backed can do the role better which KL is doing. Let KL play ODI series vs Zimbabwe, Nepal, Uganda, Bermuda, Mauritius, HongKong...but please don't back him for a Test series vs Australia. He will nibble the match at the first sign of pressure.

BTW what squad do you guys think was the best we ever sent to Aus?

2018-19 or this one.

What works for 2018 one is peak Kohli, Pujara, Shami. This team will have better openers, more bases covered and greater depth.

2018 one was good...it was obviously diluted due to the absence of Warner, Smith. Plus the exemplary performance during the 2020-21 series.

KL has the tools to succeed in Aus. But what usually happens with him is he scores big in first test (100, motm) and disappears for rest of the series. That's why his average is so low, he is like Rahane, only difference being Rahane would do the scoring in 2nd or 3rd test and be a passenger rest of the series.

Maybe we'll start with KL and move to Sarfaraz or Jurel after 3 tests.

Important to take down Lyon. We did that very well in 2018 and 2020. If he gets into the game, he'll plug one end up and their well rested pacers will keep chipping at us. Their 5th bowler (Green/ Marsh) won't make any impact.

Mayank in 2018, Pant in 2020, who'll it be this time?

Been many years since we had a monster series by Kohli. Hope he does well, his last tour to Aus surely. Best chance to own a declining Smith and make a statement.
