Spin bowling,pace bowling allrounder should be devloped and those promising players who are selected now should be given long rope.

Parag has been consistent in all forms in domestic cricket and he can learn from Virat,Rohit etc.

Reddy is the most promising pace bowling allrounder and should be groomed.He would learn a lot from seniors.

No matter how much we try to defend him, he is not cut out. He can neither play Pujara's role, nor will he be able to handle even a bit of sledging.

 

He is 32 years old, no time left to waste on him. Jurel if backed can do the role better which KL is doing. Let KL play ODI series vs Zimbabwe, Nepal, Uganda, Bermuda, Mauritius, HongKong...but please don't back him for a Test series vs Australia. He will nibble the match at the first sign of pressure.

KL Rahul is an impact player in SENA conditions, I will take him over Khan at number 5, if he fails then we can bring in Khan.

I feel Kuldeep is somewhat overrated in white ball and underrated in real cricket aka red ball. 

 

He still has the mystery element, few Aussies can't read him, and unlike ODIs/T20s he won't get that flustered if he is under attack from someone. As long as he is paired with a good economical, defensive bowler (Jadeja works) he'll be fine, just has to have an attacking, wicket taking approach. I enjoyed his bowling against the Bazballers and in current form he is the best Indian spinner. Anyway I think spinner won't be a concern, since second half of 2014-15 BGT our spinners have been consistently outbowling Lyon by a big margin downunder. Fitness of fast bowlers, batting, catching are more pressing areas.

Kohli and Kela were standouts on those raddi, doctored pitches in RSA last year. Perth day 5 with big cracks, Adelaide D/N, Gabba, these guys have the potential to win us the games. Don't confuse formats. 

 

Kohli was at his best in RSA and if he had played against Eng earlier this year, 500+ runs series was on the cards. Pity he missed out on easy statpadding.

I don't expect Jaiswal to be consistent but he will have a couple of good knocks. Still too young and raw, reminds me of Kohli of 2012-14 period, spark everyone can see but to do it consistently isn't a short term process. His shot selection is a work in progress. 

 

Rohit did well last BGT though he kept throwing away his starts. Unless he has a drastic age related decline (even greats like Sachin, Kallis, Ponting, Hayden suddenly lost it) I expect him to do well, score 350-400 runs in these 5 tests with maybe one match defining knock. If he can stay a bit longer, hope he demoralizes Lyon like how Mayank did in 2018-19. 

 

Gill seems to have figured out test cricket finally, Pant is a mystery but ability no one can doubt. Kohli/Kela to man the middle order, Jaddu down at number 7, our batting should worry Aussies. Sarfaraz, Jurel are good backups.

Yar KL's avg is just 20 in Australia-NZ. 

 

He avgs almost 50 vs WI..hence the numbers look a bit respectful at 34. Else he is no better than Shan Masood.

 

Centurion pitch wasn't bad...it was our batters who did abba-jabba-dabba there. Dean Elgar alone scored 185.

Sarfaraz is not the answer I agree, but going back to KL is as regressive as choosing Mukesh Kumar your leader of attack in all 3 formats.

Anyway good thread by @Adamant, our fans are unnecessarily worried and pessimistic about our chances later this year. 

 

For me BGT win in Aus is bigger than anything. That too when Aussies have such a great team and number one in the ranking points.

Kela since 2022 has been much better. He had a horror run in 2018-20 and hence his average took a nosedive.

Elgar was very very lucky that game. Never seen a player with so many misses/edges score that many. Anyway day 1 was tougher, and Kela rescued us from dire straits.

Mayank is not going to play Tests so soon. He will most probably debut in T20's/ODI's. first....it depends though on his performance in domestics.

 

He has drawn the attention, now one good season and he will break in the team.

 

Harshit is ready IMO.

Let's say he bowls successfully in the 4 day games in the A-team series in Australia ... we can include him then as an additional pacer.
