Fast bowling, like any other art, needs support and encouragement. It acts as a motivation.

We can produce so many spinners and batters because they have had heroes to look up to. Kumble grew up watching Prasanna and Chandra, Bhajji was inspired by Bedi...you need role models.

Our bowling culture started to revive during Ganguly's era...now we have bowlers who can bowl fast even in their mid-thirties. What Zak told isn't true anymore.

IPL also had a huge impact. Earlier so many promising players used to fall by the wayside as they didn't see any future given there were barely 2-3 spots for a fast bowler in the Indian team and playing Ranji trophy or other domestic tourneys wasn't lucrative enough. With IPL, upcoming fast bowlers know that there're 10 IPL franchises and nearly everyone needs 2-3 pacers. Even if they import pacers from other countries, they would always prefer local pacers.

This also led to IPL scouts looking for Indian pace bowling talent, and change in 2010s has been amazing. Bumrah is the leading example. Even though he played domestic cricket before playing IPL, it was IPL which brought him in limelight. Without IPL, Bumrah probably would've been another pacer who fell by the wayside. I mean look at the hype created by Mayank Yadav and he got a BCCI contract as everyone took notice the way he bowled in 3 IPL games! He could've played years in Ranji trophy without anywhere the recognition he got in just 3 IPL matches. And things will only get better as upcoming youngsters will want to be Bumrah and bowl fast like Mayank.

Dube and Jadeja are there due to GG's longtime friend :csk:

They are done! Gambhir won't give them such a long rope for "once in a blue moon" performances when there's so many youngsters and domestic performers knocking on the door. I truly don't recall the last time we had such a strong pipeline! Now for nearly every spot there're 2-3 names who come up and you can play them in the team without drop in team's performance.

But it's up to selectors and GG to manage the talent and make sure they give top performers a chance and are not biased towards certain players or certain franchises (again looking at Chahal, Jadeja and Dube the "all-rounder")

There are enough 'experts' who discourage bowling fast even among youngsters.

Not pacers who have played international cricket.

As I said, I'd want a foreign coach. But if other option is Vinay Kumar,I'm quite happy to have Zak unless you can prove Vinay encourages pace bowling.

I am not comparing Vinay with Zaheer as bowling coaches.

Just saying that Zaheer himself did not work on his fitness during his bowling days.

Don't want such a pace bowling coach.

Scratch that no Zak or Koomer or Balaji... GG wants Morkel.

I am sold on it @Suhaan @express bowling

This is really nice.
Morkel himself is better than any specialist retired pacer India ever produced.

Nehra the full toss machine and Vinay should stay away.

Bharat Arun only played 6 matches for India and he was india best bowling coach.  Morne Morkel was Pakistan bowling coach in 2023 wc

Raju Kulkarni.  Don't think Gattani or Kamaal were that quick.

No.2 is based on chronology.

We can add Pandurang Salgaokar at 1.

Morkel looks fine, but BCCI want all desi support staff

I don't think he will be given opportunity

He has had positive understanding with Mayank Yadav so far so there's still hope.

But you are right that BCCi might go all out for desi coach like Zak.
