Gollum Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 (edited) What people forget about Bharat Arun is that he was there with MRF pace academy right since inception, as assistant to Dennis Lillee, then McGrath. Him and TA Sekhar. He put hard yards in domestic, IPL before being reunited with his buddy Shastri as national coach. Check what Siraj had to say about Arun, called him 'farishta', and someone who spotted, inspired and trained him early. Clearly he had the goods even before taking up the job. Abhishek Nayar is like that, anecdotes from DK and some recent youngsters (Venky Iyer, Varun C, Rinku, Rana, check post IPL 2024 final comments by KKR squad members). Tasted success in KKR. From what I have read about him, he is very good in grooming youngsters. Dunno about Vinay Kumar's creds but have faith in GG's judgement. Hope he does a good job, maybe Bharat Arun declined the job (he worked with Shastri as they were longtime friends and same age group), maybe his motivation and rigors of international travel were becoming a hindrance. GG must have seen something in Vinay, both are contemporaries albeit with different levels of success. Good luck to the new staff. Relieved that Rathour is on his way out, he presided over Indian batting falling to historic lows and so many talents unable to fulfil potential. Proper freeloader who tagged along without accountability. Jaiswal, Rinku, Abhishek, Gill etc. deserve to be coached by someone else. Gollum Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 Kohli, Ashwin, Rohit, Gambo were there in the XI/squad when Vinay bowled in WACA (2012) to Warner. Those were the days rollingstoned, Manucrick and Lone Wolf 3

Ravi Shastri is not a “coach”, he is more like a great manager/ motivational speaker. All the coaching was done by Bharat Arun and that’s why he was hired. Not writing off Shastriji as his qualities are improtant too. RD is more hands on coach qualified with the technical aspects of the job. Gambhir right now is in the Shastri territory but since is a contemporary player might understand requirements of current day cricket. i still feel can go either way. Gollum 1

Bharat Arun has been contributing to Indian fast bowling for decades now at both NCA and domestic /junior level. Even before he became coach he has hand in the development of lot of pacers. So you can’t write off he was being adequate. You can apply that to Mhambrey who got good returns and maybe was good at strategy.

Don't think international players need coaching. They need management and atmosphere to perform alongwith strategies. Shastri and Dravid both did a fair job.

Chandrakant Pandit was KKR head coach, assisted by Bharat Arun and Abhishek Nayar, some very capable people....GG was mentor. maniac 1

It can involve game play strategies. we underestimated T Dilip. I have seen some old interviews of him, the guy has worked his way upto where he is with innovative techniques etc. and actual coaching education. That is equally important. Lord 1
