neel roy Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 London to New Delhi is 9.5 hrs in flight Mumbai to New Delhi is 20 hours in train Half the people who are spreading the rumors will still be in train while Kohli will be training in Firoz Shah Kotla before even they reach. Kohli is 36. He ll max play for 3 years. After that doesn’t matter if he is in London or Lesotho. Till he is in the team we expect him to perform as one expects a batsman of his calibre to perform. Instead of losing. All he had to do was average 40 plus. Jesus it's not that hard. He failed. Rahane definitely was a pretty good leader. Unfortunate we go with the most senior or the best player as captain. I'm sure Kohli would've been even more successful had Rahane been the captain and Kohli focused solely on his batting. Rahane was like Gambhir that way - both great leaders but unfortunately couldn't be captains. Kron and raki05 1 1

Both Kohli and Rohit's last tourney should be CT 2025. Ideally, Kohli should've quit white-ball cricket altogether after WT20 for a smoother transition but CT has to be the end for both of them. ODI WC in 2027 is too far away and they won't make it - at least not 3by performing the way they should. We have Jaiswal and Gill ready to open so time to move to younger generation across all formats is closer than 3 years. neel roy, Gollum, Kron and 1 other 1 3

In t20 sure he Is one of thr best ever in his prime. In odi? And in tests I would say from his era, he is 2nd best after smith at his absolute peak. But for consistency probably 3rd. Just ahead of Kane.

Just ahead of Kane. Pretty good player and from 2014-2018 he was the best batter at chasing. Hasn't been the same since 2019 and onwards. What hurts his legacy is that one stellar performance in a world tourney which stamps his authority on the tourney. Something like Aravinda De Silva's 96 WC performances in SF & Final, Ponting in 2003, Gilchrist in most of the knockouts, Stokes in 2019, Head in 2023 etc. That one innings where you make the difference. Unfortunately Kohli's best knocks have come in either bi-laterals or similar series. E.g., his Asia Cup knock against Pak in 2012 and India couldn't even reach the finals, 130 odd against SL in a tri-series in Aus where we still couldn't get to the finals despite winning the game. There was another great knock where he led the chase of 360 odd against Aus in India in a bi-lateral series. But all these knocks were inconsequential. I wish one of these knocks could've been played in 2019 WC SF, or 2017 CT final, or 2015 WC SF, or in 2023 WC final. There've been plenty of opportunities but nothing impactful. So my take would be one of the best ODI batsmen but without a clutch or impactful performance. Definitely not the GOAT but one of the better ones. Rohit had the chance to cement his legacy as well in 2023 WC final and wish he had stayed longer and batted deep. He was the one batsman who looked at ease. That knock would've put him pretty close to the top. In Tests Steve Smith is the best of this generation and Kohli would be in the same category as Root and Williamson. Again, showing up in one of the WTC finals or that one knock where he helped win an away Test would've been huge. Something like Pant in Australia. He came close to doing so at Adelaide in 2014-15 but couldn't win it. Steve Smith OTOH had more impact, and won the Ashes on his own a few of years ago. Edited July 16, 2024 by Ultimate_Game Kron 1

Played 2 WC finals and top scored in both! Even Dhoni showed up in the WC2011 final. People may say we would've won anyways. But I'm not too sure. We were 115/3 chasing 275. One more wkt we lose the match and Yuvraj was the next one who was out for a duck against Pak in SF and SL had 2 offies and Yuvi did struggle against spin. Plus we all know how "easy" it is to score in finals when none of our batsmen have done anything in knockouts over the last decade. If scoring in finals would've been so easy, we wouldn't have scored just 240 in WC2023 final, and should've easily chased 240 in 2019 WC SF. Fact is batting, and chasing in knockouts and especially in a Final is a big thing. Till now 275 is the highest chase in any WC. It looked easy coz Gambhir and Dhoni managed to handle the pressure. Give the same target to the current lot in a Final and watch the fun. They showed up when it mattered. That's what matters and that's what it says in the record books. Rest is all speculation and woulda coulda shoulda. Edited July 16, 2024 by Ultimate_Game Kron, MumInd, raki05 and 1 other 2 2

Winning is not easy and captaincy matters. We saw it over the last decade how difficult it is to win tourneys. It took great captaincy from Rohit to win just one, and Dhoni won 3! Once can be luck, twice maybe coincidence, but 3 titles can't be pure luck. And he nearly won the 4th one in 2014 but for that Yuvi 13 off 21 innings. Dhoni messed up here by not promoting Raina over Yuvraj. As a combination his value is far greater than Kohli or any other pure batsman. If I'm building a new team and I can have any Indian player I can choose from, my top 3 picks would be Dhoni, Bumrah and Kapil. There's a reason why India improved in chasing once Dhoni came along. Look up our stats before Dhoni and after he booked his slot in the Indian team. A reliable lower order batsman averaging 50, a wonderful white-ball captain, and a wkt keeper to boot is a luxury not too many teams have. Same with a bowler like Bumrah and a gun all-rounder like Kapil. You can build your team with any no. of batsmen and India has had many (SRT, Kohli, Rohit, Gambhir, Sehwag, Yuvraj, Dhawan, Raina etc.) But these 3 players are unique and cannot be replaced easily. The flexibility they provide to the team is not something other players can. I can mix and match other players but these players are essentially 2 in one. The next two players after these would be Yuvraj and probably Pandya for the same reason. Fill up your team with as many multi-dimensional players as you can to add depth. A drop-off from Kohli to say Dhawan, or from Tendulkar to Sehwag can be managed but the drop-off is extremely steep when you go from Bumrah to the next best pacer (probably Zaheer), or from Kapil to the next best all-rounder (Pandya is the only one I can think of and Kapil is way ahead). Playing 4 wkt keepers, have no plan for no. 4 spot, and benching Shami and playing that mental midget collar chewer in Chahal sunk us. Wasted 2 years on Rayudu and then dropped him just before the WC! Who does that? If you had to make up your mind, have 2-3 players compete in bi-laterals and select one a few months before the tourney. But changing your mind just before the WC and going with an untested no. 4 in ODI WC was just stupid. That is why I want to see the seniors phased out by CT 2025 so we have 2 years to build the team for the next WC in 2027. Kron 1

I agree with all but tbf zaheer was fantastic in 2011. He bowled brilliantly. For some reason sreesanth who was inconsistent but talented also stepped up in key icc games. Both of them. Bit underrated imo. Stats don't do justice for zak. But yes bumrah is on a different planet altogether. He is like goku God Zak is more like majin vegeta/SSj 3 goku
